New York Junior Archery
now that we have all voiced our opinions on blaze orange and the Southern tier rifle debate I am hoping we can all agree that we need to find a way to get more kids into hunting .I think a good start would be lowering the junior archery to 12. There is a bill on the books to do just that but it has been in committe since March . If you agree contact your legislators and tell them to get the bill moving

ive heard about this but idk if more hunters would be a good thing in the deer woods they like everyone else should wait
unless they gave them the doe tags thatd be a good idea imo |
RE: New York Junior Archery
We should lower the hunting age. I can remember when I was turning 14 and couldn't sleep at night waiting for hunting season to roll arould. Several of my friends would go hunting with their fathers and by the time they became old enough to hunt they have lost interest. These people that don't want the extra hunters in the woods are just selfish. To me this is said children are loosing interest before the age of 14 for bow or 16 for gun.
I run a kids league in the winter with 38 kids between ages 5 and 15. I would say that half are interested in hunting before age 12 and after age 13 about half of them don't want to be bothered with the sport. In our league11 kids are between ages 5 - 9, and 23 kids are between ages10 - 13,and 4kids are between ages14 - 15, out of those 4 kids old enough to hunt 1 hunted the other 3 didn't. All 4 children come from hunting households. Out of the 23 kids between ages 10 - 13, 11 want to hunt when they get old enough 9 of those 11 are 12 and under. This is just my own personal findings. |

RE: New York Junior Archery
I think 14 should stay the age for archery. They should drop the firearm age to 14.

RE: New York Junior Archery
spike im not so sure ik some very impatient hunters no offense to anyone.. and they would deffinently start wounding game or shooting up the woods because of the lack of patience

RE: New York Junior Archery
i was fortunate enough to have a father who started{ put up with] taking me with him at like age 10. maybe even younger, cant remember. at age 12 he gave me a shotgun during a push sat me in a spot and gave me five shells. i was lucky enough to kill my first deer that day. safely and humanely. i think the younger you get them involved the better. not sure if we should lower the age or do something like a couple days of youth hunting. but get the kids involved asd early as possible. teach them the importance of safety and make it fun so they want to continue. maybe we could get them outdoors and away from the drugs and other crap.

RE: New York Junior Archery
My son will be 14 this Nov and will bow hunt this year. I think bow age should start at 12 or 13 and gun hunt big game at 14. This should get many kids hooked on hunting that may never do it simply because they are more interested in dating and other teenage pastimes. Start them young, get them rooted and watch them grow up to love the outdoors and all that it has to offer. And letsloose the I HAD TO WAIT......SO SHOULD THEY ATTITUDE. Keep them interested and hunting will never die.
