Nuisance Bear in PA
What is the PA game commision Policy on nuisance Black Bear?
I have a hunting cabin just outside of St.Marys, PA and we have always had bear around and once in awhile they will mess with things around the cabin especially bird feeders we which is understandable. This summer there has been a really big black bear in the 600 lbs. range that decided our spring resevoir was a good place to beat the heat - problem with this is that he has tore up the liner a couple of times now and once he has tore apart the pump that sends the water up the camp. I just spent the whole day redigging the resevoir with my brother and relining it again. Just wondering if there is some type of law that allows you to take a bear that is physically damaging your property or not. We have never had them bother the spring before but this has been one hot summer and I don't half blame him. One thing about this bear in particular is he doesn't seem to affraid of people at all. |
RE: Nuisance Bear in PA
I dont know the game commission's policy on black bear, but i grew up in St. Marys myself. My experience with the black bear there are that they are very migrational animals. We would see them for a week or so then they would move on to a different site. I'm not sure if this would be the case for your bear or not. I do know what you mean about them ripping up the bird feeders and everything. Even once, I had a bear, much smaller than yours, rip up a delta deer target i used for archery practice.
Good luck with your situation. |

I'd let him hang around until bear season...and then let him hang around somemore...from the meat pole that is.;)

I would echo that. Bear season is looking up for you. The GC does have a policy that deals with brave, nuisancebears: BEAR SEASON!

RE: Nuisance Bear in PA
For nuisance bears you have to notify the PGC and they will come out, trap the bear, move it to an isolated area far from the scene , I would not take action myself, a large fine, loss of hunting priveleges for a long time and possibly big iron doors may come into the picture....

Contact the PGC. Remove the bird feeders as well.

I would pick up all the left over from fast food joints etc, and I would "throw them out" in the garbage can outside your area to keep the bear coming around until bear season. Then his fat french fry eating ass would be done!
