yes you can but to be absolutly sure on that question you need to call a E.C.O. in a northern zone region.i don't hunt up there but i don't recall seeing any restrictions on either sex tags any where in ny.

YES, I live & bowhunt the Northern zone. The season starts here this friday the 27th. If you still have last yrs regular season Buck tag, its good as a either sex tag in the Northern zone for the last 4 days of Sept. Before the new license goes into effect Oct. 1st. Also on your new license if you bought the Super Sportsman both your either sex tag, and doe only tag are good up here beginning 10/1.

I have avoided the north zone archery, I hunt the Speculator/Lk. Pleasant area. With the season running concurrent with the early bear I am more than nervous being in a tree in camo (brown) with bear hunters that have been hunting for years without seeing a bear, and this area gets alot of bear hunters.

I have personally never hunted that area but some friends do and they have good success during the regular season with some big rackers. Another area you may want to consider is the Pulaski NY area. We see a few 100 deer every morning headed to the Mexico launch ramp. Some 1st timers went up last season, walked into the state land off rt 13, sat down and before the day was out the 2 had killed a fork and missed on a big 10. Never saw the woods before, went in at 8am so they could see where they were. Maybe dumb luck, but after 11 years hunting the dacks I could use some of that too! I think I will be headed up there for some ML action.

Comanch
I was not there and it is not my place to tell a NJ hunter that pays $100 for a tag how he should hunt. I personally would rather eat a young doe or take the 6 plus deer.

Rod, any idea where abouts your buddies were hunting. I live near Pulaski, travel St.Rt. 13 quit often, and don't know of a single piece state land off rt. 13!! There are a couple real small pieces on side roads, and The Happy Valley management area approx 7 miles off 13. And I can tell you to walk into an area up around here ,and never been in there before, and shoot some deer that easily is REAL LUCKY!! Rt. 3 not 13 has some readily available spots of state land thats loaded with deer. In there I could believe!!

Could have been rt3? My buddy has a place on rt13 a couple houses from the sportsmans hole. He said that he steered them to state land but to be honest I did not pay it all that much attention. I may head up that way for some ML but I have a camp I run in Dacks with up to 9 hunters to coordinate. Only so much time. How is the pressure on the state lands on the weekends? Do you get much of the spray and pray croud, dont need to drive 5 hours for that when I can get it right here........INCOMING!!!!

Hey BA
Would the Sportsmans hole area be DMU 6K, it looks like 81 is the cut. And the area on rt3 you speak of, is that another DMU. The seasons are different and that is real close to the lines there. Would like to go up for the Oct 12 and possible hit some steelies/mud sharks (if they are running any water)

Rod, The statelands around here aren't really too bad. M/L season seems to get more & more popular every yr. Its nothing like southern tier opener. But you'll hear shots going off quit often. Bowhunting is my thing, so with the added hunters in the woods that Sat. I often find private sections more for safety reasons. But I think I'll give the M/L season a whirl this yr. The 6k cutoff is interstate 81. It goes the west side of 81, and the south bank of the salmon river where they meet is the southern tier line. The sportsman hole is definitly in 6k. There's a small state section just down the road from the sportmans hole, and probably near your buddies place. Its on Towsley rd. Its only couple miles from RT. 13. I've never hunted it, but walked the trail through it before. Has a snowmobile trail that runs through that piece. I'm guessing that might be where your buddies went if was close to that area. Hey good luck ,and maybe you'll get as lucky as they did!!!!!!!!

Commanche
I have a nice warm house to crash in overlooking the river, maybe do some early hunt, some afternoon steelhead and then some evening hunting as well. Cap that off with a Johnny Walker Black Label on the rocks a good meal and hit the sack. Sounds just about perfect to me.
