PA coyote...Need some tips!
Hey all , a friend and i have started to go after coyote that have been lurking on some local farms , the other day we were able to catch a glimpse of one as it bolted out of a field ....... I will be using a .22-250 with 55 grain bullets , that should do the trick , but i was wondering what you all use as far as bait , calls , and tactics to help lure in the wherry critters in PA. I have been to some sites but most of them offer info on hutning the dogs out west. Also i have heard that some guys like to use a spotlight with a red lense at night and call and spot the fields once like every 10-15 mins. is that effective? Any tips or tricks would be great , i would like to get one and possibly stuff em for the game room , my local taxidermist does great work from what ive seen in his showroom ....
Thanks again DL55 |

I don't know exactly what they do in Pa when hunting coyotes, but I'm gonna soon learn. A friend has an uncle who had a game camera set up outside a den somewhere on his property and found numerous pics of coyotes with whitetail fawns. On average he said 1 a day. Thats alot of whitetails being lost. I don't know for sure if the uncle was exagerrating or not, but I think I'm gonna try and remove a few yotes from the area farms.

We hunt them in lycoming county pa and nothing has worked better than a turkey call. They come into the calls all the time during turkey season. We've tried tons of other calls but they just don't seem to work as good.

Coyotes & game cameras don't mix. The scent left behind with a camera will spook any coyote away from continually returning to it.

I use a rabbit in distress call. Try to get in an elevated spot and an area where he doesn't have much chance to circle down wind. Their noses are ten times better than the nose on a deer. Try not to miss. Every shot missed just educated the yote. He will be vary wary of the rabbit call next time. Good luck.
