RE: NY turkey season

As for the fella that mentioned the DEC setting the season so the hens would be on nests? Im not so sure. I admit Im not a turkey expert, but I see hensadding that daily or every other day egg to the clutch, but I dont think theyre setting then. I can only go by what I see, and that includes at least one nest each year on my property. They dont seem to start setting till June here. Again, I may be wrong, or maybe her first nest was destroyed, but every hen, every year? I wish the season was about 2 weeks earlier, but like you guys, I doubt it will change. As for wet or cold, the toms by me were more vocal in April, and that was the weather we had. I guess only the birds know for sure!

RE: NY turkey season

Hunted prolly 15 mornings all season. Opening morning heard 7 gobbles, we harvested two mature toms. the next day I went to a buddies place and we heard over 100 gobbles, couldnt get em to come in. Hunted that tues and weds with no success. May 7th, heard 8-10 birds hammerin all morning, harvested a nice one....I was a guide the rest of the season. I think i went out a total of 5 days without hearing anything....everyone i hunt with was able to harvest a bird this year. Good Year for us.
