Best week to hunt illinois

RE: Best week to hunt illinois
1st week IMO, the rut will reach is peak about the middle of next week im guessing.

RE: Best week to hunt illinois
im gonna hit the trails next sunday, then tuesday and wednesday...the 7th 9th, and 10th

RE: Best week to hunt illinois
We're gonna need some cooler temps to get things going really good. I would look for the first two weeks of November to be excellent as long as it cools down.

RE: Best week to hunt illinois
The two weeks before shotgun season are the best, especially the two or three days right before shotgun season.

RE: Best week to hunt illinois
I strongly agree with JP and Titleist. Yesterday was about 70 degrees so that doesn't help get rut going. Although I saw plenty of deer from stand yesterday PM. Might try & take the fatter one today or tomorrow. I wish (just once to see how it turns out) they would put shotgun season in the rut. It might really help control herd numbers. I know last year they were still chasing a bit on shotgun opener.
Anyone shotgunning Johnson county? Uncle Matt (in IL) |
RE: Best week to hunt illinois
Ive kinda been buying time this week because the temps are soo warm. 70 degrees is too hot to see good pre rut movement. Next week I will start hunting hard.

RE: Best week to hunt illinois
I always wanted them to put shotgun season about two weeks later, then instead of 2 seperate seasons, just have one long one.
anyway with the weather forcast and all. I'm thinking they will chase hard the 2nd or 3rd week dusring a good cold snap. |
RE: Best week to hunt illinois
This is my first year hunting in Il. So all I can say is where the heck is the colder weather. Also what is taking them farmers so long to harvest the corn...As long as the corn is up and the weather is like it has been them deer just don't want to be moving around. Hopfully this coming weekend it will cool down and then the action might heat up...I hope...good luck to all...:D

RE: Best week to hunt illinois
My dad is a farmer. You can harvest it whenver you want. But when you take it to the elevator they want it to be under a certaind percentage of moisture. Otherwise they will have to dry it out before they can haul it out. If you take it in when it is too wet then you will be docked, meaning they will not give you the maximum price you could be getting had it been the correct moisture. We have had all our crops out since Oct 2. I would imagine alot of the farmers that still have crops in the field are having trouble getting them out becuase of all the rain we've been getting.

RE: Best week to hunt illinois
yep, just what titleist_03 said. The reason most of the crops are still in, is all of the rain. Cant be gettin the combines stuck in the mud.

RE: Best week to hunt illinois
well, i dont htink this stinking indian summer helped any...we are usually at like 35-50 degrees now. were having these 70-75 degree days and it drves me nuts! i have a pair of coveralls for hunting and if this keeps up, ill come out 25 lbs lighter!
i dont think the rut should be too effected, though. because, like it was said ealier, once that cold hits (hopefully around the 5th-7th) those deer are gonna freak! im looking forward to a good rut this year. |
