Need info on private land hunting in Illinois!
Does anyone have information or links to information on a bill passed in Illinois that requires landowners to grant pemission to all that ask IF they allow one? According to a longtime friend/landowner he may be required to grant permission to anyone if he allows just one sportsman on his property. According to information he was given, if he denies access to all, but grants permission to those he chooses........he is liable for anyone who accesses his property, even those who might trespass!
Any information is appreciated. Looks as though I will be calling my legislators!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

i think i saw it one this site but i think the law can be skirted by leasing the land .even a token amount for the lease makes the land not covered by the law

If it's true it will surely lock out a lot of land that would otherwise be accessible to hunters , landowners don't like being told who to allow on their property . What kind of socialist crap is that ?

Not law yet. It's only being "shopped around" at this point. Probobly won't go anywhere. If a landowner charges even a penny then he assumes liability because the exchange constitutes a contract.

Matt, according to Farm Bureau, if an access fee IS charged then the recent court ruling does not apply. BUT, as you said if a fee is charged then a landowner could be liable. So it scaring landowners because they are told 2 different things. In my case, a landowner is deciding to play it safe by not allowing anyone access now.[:o]
Until this mess is straightened out, I think there will be an increase in landowners denying access on the advice of their local insurance companies. |

segment on evening news last night about this; it was a supreme court decision that instigated the law; the farm bureau is trying to get them to reword the law.
