Archery antelope in NE and ND

I am wanting to make an out of state trip in 2005 for archery antelope in either Nebraska or North Dakota. I have looked at both states' regs and archery antelope permits can be bought over the counter. If I were to hunt in North Dakota, it would be on the Little Missouri National Grassland, and for Nebraska, I would hunt on the Oglala National Grassland. Either one would be a self guided hunt and I have already begun to contact people from the grassland headquarters to get more information.

I was wondering if anybody here has hunted either of the two areas that I mentioned? How have your experiecnces been? I am not after an absolute monster, but a respectable buck or even any antelope with a bow would be a blast. Any help would be great. Thanks guys.

I've hunted the Oglala National Grasslands before. The land I hunted on I had to go with a partner who new the people. My partner was a real idiot. Pretty much drive around till you saw something then try to put a sneak on them.

I only got one shot off the whole season and it was dumb on my part. Had 10 does about 20 yards from me, and the buck was about 55 and I couldn't bring myself to taking the easy doe, shot right under the buck [&o] . We were sitting in the ditch along the road in a pasture with a buck silohuette I had made.

We've been droughting pretty hard the last 3 years or so, so there isn't a ton of grass cover to hide in. I would say your best bet is to try and put a blind up by a watering hole. The closer you get to SD the less small ponds you'll find, so scouting the ponds will probably be easier.

Have you checked WY, I'm pretty sure you won't have a problem getting a license there. There is no place that has as many antelope as WY.

What part of the Grass land in NE do you think you'll hunt the Oglala is a large area. I did most of my hunting along 385 North of Chadron. Also I think west of Harrison is still in the same hunting unit, there can be a lot antelope between there and the WY border.

Ft. Robinson has a lot of land open for hunting too, not sure how much antelope is on it though.

They have a draw for tags. doe tags are not a problem to obtain, but buck tags are another story!! This will be my 4th year applying for a buck tag, will know in july...
