That's a rare sight here in MN. I think the herd is under a hundred right now. They haven't had a season on them for quite awhile, but when they do I'll be the first to apply. Where did you take these pics? From what I know, the majority of the elk in the state live around Grygla.

It's nice to still see some elk in the state. I really wish there were more of them around. How sweet would it be to have an in-state elk hunt!!

did they transplant elk to northern Mn? I know that they did in northern wisconsin and Michigan, but I never heard about Mn

Great to see them back there! I saw a little elk herd in Wisconsin when I was back hunting Thanksgiving weekend on a drive going to the U.P.

Jorgy- There are two different herds for sure in Northwestern Minnesota the one herd I am pretty sure came from Canada they migrated into the state.

The other herd I think was introduced many many years ago. They DNR here is not trying to expand the elk herds at all because of the problems created my the elk to farmers fields. So when the elk herd gets to a certin size the state has a small elk hunt which has not happened in quite a few years.

FYI,
These pictures were sent to me by one of my teaching/coaching/hunting friends from Thief River Falls. The pictures were taken Easter weekend about 5 miles NE of Greenbush.
