just a hunter and a guide--I love elk--but with anything there are pluses and minus--the wolf is a perfect example here in MN.-Talk to the Arglye farmers and see what they say about elk!!

Well I think that with the wolf issue should be put back in the dnrs hands and having controled harvesting. And with you being a guide would understand the elk issue.Yes I know that's their are pros and cons but just think what could happen in the future with them If they had controled hunts they wouldn't have as many problems and the farmers could charge non-res. hunters to hunt their propertyand or charge fo lodging.Besides the ranchers out west deal with it why are we any different. We Minnesotans alawys see the cons not the Pros!! It doesn't make sense to me when alot of MN residents complain that we don't have enough deer, bear, and moose and elk. And when we have a chance THe first thing is cost to much money, get cubs to have fundraisaing, then it's about the farmers, then the DNR/state should work along w/the farmers.Or like I'm interrested in the QDM.my friends say that I'm crazy because I can only put it on public land. They think someone will steal the area, but when it comes down to it It's benefiting the deer pop. in MN. Am I"m wrong in saying that alot of MN hunters are always complaining about new ideas, and not thinking how to work around it? Because it sure sounds like it.OH well THIS GREAT STATE OR MN,has so many possible things and we just let it slip through our hands because we are afraid to see the future.Let the other states beat us at the wlidlife game

RE: Elk pop. in MN

the elk have been here in that small herd for a long time---they do have a controled hunt on the Minn. elk and have had for a several years--obviously with the small herd roughly 30 anaimals not too many licenses are given out--about 4 to 6---the DNR issues a hunting season on elk when the pop is over 30--in other words that is the level they want to keep the elk at to appease the problems they cause locally in the area they live----yes it would be wonderful to have a large huntable pop. of elk but we don't have enough unihabitable land that can produce large numbers
