what would guys and gals do if you were hunting on ground that you had hunted all your life and a bunch of morons came in and seen a big buck where your treestands are, proceded to hunt 50 yards behind you with a rifle (in missouri). drive the same spot opening evening and started to curse a blue streak when they seen your treestand that had been there 2 years. And to top it all off you come back the next week to see that 2 of your stands are gone not 100 yards from each other but your other 2 stands in plain view are still there. whom would you blame? tresspasers or the morons? and if the morons are reading this i know who you are and where you wont be hunting next!!!![>:]

I hunt my best friends property. Me and him have been hunting the same stands for about 15 years, all on his property. We leave our stands up all year long. About 5 years ago a young couple built a home up the road 1/4 mile or so in the same block of woods. Turns out this guy dont want any hunting going on " in his back yard" . 3 years ago, early spring, were out scouting with our dogs. There not hunting dogs, but they love walking threw the woods as much as we do. So we decide to check for old sign near our stands. We get to our first stand and its gone. This stand is located about 150 yards behind my buddy' s house. My buddy hits the roof. We go to our second stand site and its gone. Now my buddy is seeing red. We check the rest, 5 out of 8 stands are gone. We get back to the house and my buddy says get in the truck. He drives straight to his new neighbors house & knocks on the door. This fellow comes to the door and tells us were tresspassing and to get off his property. My buddy goes balistic, calling him every name in the book and accusing him of tresspassing onto his property and stealing deer stands. By now the fellows wife is getting into the act and calling us killers and names that are not very lady like. So the guy tells his wife to call the cops and my buddy pulls out his cell phone and says " call the cops there are laws against stealing and hunter harrassment and we' ll have the cops search the garage and house and then press charges when they find the stands" . Well the guy gets all nervous and says hold on a minute we can work this out. We end up leaving with all 5 of our stands and an apoligy from the guy. The wife on the other hand was still giving us the bussiness. Needless to say all of our stands are chained and locked now.

Wanatah, just curious. Did you accidently hit the guy in the head with the stands while you were loading them into the P/U?

That is just amazing. I just don' t get what goes through these peoples heads.

She starts calling you killers when they are thieves. lol They have the gul to go on your buddies property, steal, then start calling you names. Priceless.... so indicitive of most of those self rightious fuzzy lovers. Please tell me they grill out and own a lexus with the FULL leather package. rofl

Moooooo, bang, thud..... burgers anyone? You know lady that package of meat was not grown on a tree, or created in a lab... i mean really, you understand that right?

Back on subject. I have had some stands stolen too. Does not make me think happy thoughts.

UPDATE:

These fine upstanding citizens who helped them selves to our stands were driving home the other night and hit a real nice doe. From what I'm hearing they were about 5 miles from home. The car has about $6000 damage and the wife received a broken nose when the air bag deployed.

Poor deer, I hope it didnt suffer

Be sure to visit them, and kindly remind them that this type of tragic incident could have been avoided. Be sure to fit the words "deer population control specialist" in there somewhere..

I have also been victim to crooks. My dad & I setup a new stand for IL second season during the off week, came out the first morning of second season and my stand was gone.

I called my dad, he was just thinking I was lost in the dark trying to get to my new stand, i figured there was a remote possibility, so i made myself comfortable until I could see. Unfortunately, It was gone. I had walked right to the tree though...

If I were going to leave a stand in the woods overnite I would put a lock on it and if it were a hanger put a bike lock on it and use a climbing stick exclusively to dissuade people from doing this. Its pretty pathetic though that someone would have to resort to something like that... I would have pressed charges and let the law know that something like that happened . It would cure their problem .
