7 does on Sat.and a 4 and a spike. Sun. more does. Mon. zip.Thanksgiving stunk.
But today I busted an 8pt sneeking almost crawling at a pretty good pace and it was just light enough with the snow to gauge rack and I took him then 4 does came in right after and I just waited til they the finally went on about their business.
Talk about getting down to the wire. I worked for him as I was hunting the bedding grounds and setup way before first light. Got em' coming home late from dinner!

I mentioned the kids in our area getting lucky. Here is the buck my niece got; 11pts. As a first deer! Spoiled for life!

Shot it opening day at 3pm. Her classmate shot one that scores in the 160' s (I' ll get a picture of that one soon I hope!). AND, a 16 year old girl at the next farm also shot a beauty. Us old farts must not be doing something right!

Hunted north of Hayward, conditions miserable, but we found some success. I shot a decent 8 pointer at 7:10 opening day. The only deer I saw all season (hunted til Wed.). My brother shot a doe and a fork with a 14" spread, and my opther brother shot 2 nice does. The DNR aged 2 of the does at 8-1/2 years old! He showed us the teeth and explained how they determined age. Pretty impressive to have deer live that long up there. But hunting was actually pretty slow. Between the 3 of us, we saw 11 deer through Wed.

Our season got a little better and the freezer fuller. My son came home from college to hunt with me and took this doe. Shot her through the neck so there wasn't much wasted meat. Now if I could only get one with my longbow!

terrible season seen five deer during whole season UNIT 70b my son who i am just getting in to hunting seen 1 in four days and is losing intrest fast. Just to those in earn a buck areas a couple of years and you will have seasons like ours we used to see 40 to 50 in a full season now lucky if you see 10. Also those that are still hunting with a rifle or who hunted all of november with a rifle shame on you why not just go to a zoo. Firearms hunting season is the weekend before thanksgiving to the weekend after. Anything else is shooting season.

Ridiculous! 9 guys hunting the Nicolet National Forest opening weekend around the Kentuck Lake area in Vilas County saw, count 'em, 3 deer. One small doe (passed), 1 small spike(passed) and one fork(missed). My son and I went back up for second weekend and each saw a buck in very heavy cover that just didn't present a kill shot. So let's add this up. 9 guys hunting 2 days plus 2 guys hunting 3 days make 24 man days in the woods and we saw 1 doe in an area the DNR is warning will be earn-a-buck next season! What a joke! (Thank god for the big six in the freezer from early bow season). Interesting to note the registration totals for this area (Vilas County) were down some 25% from last year and that locals complained it was the worst season in memory....
