muzzy season soon to start here in ohio. i only have 1 tag left in oh. more likely heading out to ladue in geauga county.it's public land & i have 'nt hunted it in aprox 10 yrs. but want to head out to see what i can do. suposely will be very cold here until after jan 15 before we see temps above 30 deg.mainly will be looking for bedding area or food plot.

Bocajnala 12-28-2017 10:08 AM

I'll be out in the evenings. I work all those days, so won't be in the woods until around 230-300 each afternoon. Bring on the cold.

Mr. Slim 12-30-2017 04:40 PM

tom, i know how you are feeling. i had to put my yellow lab down last year. he was one of the family. he had hip displasia real bad. sorry for your loss.

t.shaffer 12-31-2017 01:12 AM

thanks mr. slim . yes he part of the family. i loved him more than i love some people. my wife & i have always had a pac to never let our animals suffer. found he was internally bleeding from the spleen due to cancer.his baby sister sure does miss him. she was with us when it happened . i still hear his collar jingle & sometimes hear him scatching or sy when he would lay down. he maybe gone but never will be forgotten . rip j.j.

out all day in a ground blind toasty inside with a heater & outside was negative 6 deg. heard 1 shot all day . never seen a deer all day. buddy sent me a picture of aprox 60 deer bunched up & heading onto a state game land & never heard a shot go off . said he drove by around lunch time & no vehicles around.hopefully better luck tomorrow going to 25 deg. you know the deer will be out feeding .

t.shaffer 01-08-2018 04:03 PM

was out in geauga county today . what a day all rain & snow & blowing
could not see further than 30 yrds . just a miserable day to be out. i seen more roll overs & accidents than i seen deer . absolutely zilch nothing o n. you get the picture .& 0 hunters out also. when walking it was 2-3 feet deep. sucked . tomorrow is the last day.

Bocajnala 01-08-2018 08:12 PM

I was out all day too. I still hunted until lunch time, then took a break and sat on some food for the evening. Saw nothing. It was snowing too hard to find fresh tracks even. I was hoping to catch some bedded down. But no luck.

I'll be out after lunch time tomorrow.

t.shaffer 01-10-2018 02:29 AM

well yesterday was the last day for muzzleloader season . went out all day & seen nothing . at 5pm @ 200 yrds a big buck stepped out & could not shoot him due to the buck tag was filled . a few minutes later 5 doe stepped out @ 100 yrds . raised the traditions ldr & put the cross hairs on the biggest doe & bam, smoke clears & 4 doe are running off & 1 doe just laying there drt & mr. big walks right over to her & does the sniffing game . thought he was going to mount her.now i'm done in ohio have my legal limit of 6 deer.

Bocajnala 01-11-2018 01:40 PM

I didn't see anything on the last day.

I have that special draw hunt at mosquito lake on the 26th to look forward to now. Congrats on tagging out!

i only saw a few & yet odnr claims they killed over 13000 deer during that 4 day season. sounds like b/s to me . i believe it's a number to sell next years hunting license! i hunted 3 different counties & may of heard 5 shots total & i mean local & distance.

Bocajnala 01-12-2018 07:47 PM

I heard three shots in the four days I was out.

t.shaffer 01-13-2018 03:07 AM

however i managed to get 1 but not to hear other shots tells me people were not out . even after closing time you never heard discharge shots

t.shaffer 01-28-2018 10:23 AM

bocajnala how did you do @ mosquito special draw? was in the 50's that day & wet & raining & very damp

Bocajnala 01-28-2018 07:41 PM

I saw four. Nothing that gave me a shot opportunity. My partner saw three, but they stayed in the thick stuff.

Talking to guys after the hunt it really just depended where you were.

I talked to several who saw none. A few who saw a couple like myself.
One guy saw a group of 13 and a group of 9.
One guy had seen 27 already when I talked to him at lunch time.
One guy said he saw 70
and one guy said he saw at least a hundred.

There was definitely allot of deer sign out there. It was pretty thick and pretty flooded where I was hunting. Hunted near an eagles nest for a while and enjoyed watching them.

For the day they only had 5 deer checked in when I left in the evening. They expected a few more to be brought in that had been shot right at dark.
Not a very good day for them. The hunt the week prior they had 27 I believe.

I had a good time though.

the weekend before you went it was very cold & snowey . your weekend was warm wet & flooding . wow i surpised you were aloud to hunt close to a eagles nest. i thought they had a rule you could"nt be with in 300 yrds . but would be great to see . anyways at least you were able to get out & hunt. imyself have seen 30 deer together there & seen another group of deer probably close to 50 together with in a couple of minutes together.
