You are in the process of finding out that the U.P has tons of deer in some areas and none in others. Hope you found the right place.

Noticed he hasn't posted on how well he and his buddies did.
I would also like to know what part of the UP has tons of deer. Reports I have seen even the farming area of Menominee County is not doing all that well this year. :D Al |
It was a waste of time and money for us. We saw a total of 5 deer all week between the both of us the closest deer I saw was a nice 10 pointer 75 yards out

A nice 10 pointer at 75 yards in December on public land is a rare sight in my neck of the woods.
or in Wexford and Osceola counties, Marion McBain area near my brother. :D Al |
I ended up hunting on some private land that the owners of the cabin owned and I was east of Baldwin
|
SO, you didn't kill anything, but you saw deer. That is not a waste to many people. But hunting is not a guarantee either.
That is why its not called killing season. |

Amen! The 5 they saw was 3 more than I saw in 15 days during the gun season up at my place near Kalkaska and I still had a good time!

I bow hunted near Kalkaska years ago sometime in the 1990's. The cabin was owned by my brother's father in law. I remember some gas lines we hunted near. There were 3 of us and we got 2 deer

Next time don't go all the way to Baldwin in fact don't even go to Read City. Stop in Evart Just a bit north of town is a tract of state land called the McCormick tract by the locals. It should have very good bow hunting and not over run by bow hunters. The season opens Oct 1st. It is in a DMU area where bucks must have 3 points on one side to be legal. There is a camp ground 9 miles north of town on 15 mile road across the road from sun rise lake.
:D Al |
If you saw a 10 point buck 75 yds away, you did darn good. I saw 1 decent buck last fall and a 4 point. I saw 1 buck all the season before, gun and bow.At least I got that one.

the McCormick make sure you have a GPS you can get lot in there !!!
