SO, you didn't kill anything, but you saw deer. That is not a waste to many people. But hunting is not a guarantee either.
That is why its not called killing season.

Amen! The 5 they saw was 3 more than I saw in 15 days during the gun season up at my place near Kalkaska and I still had a good time!

I bow hunted near Kalkaska years ago sometime in the 1990's. The cabin was owned by my brother's father in law. I remember some gas lines we hunted near. There were 3 of us and we got 2 deer

Hunting was good up there from 1973 when I bought the property until the late 90s and then things went downhill. Wyoming spoiled me for hunting here in MI and until I can't hunt out there any more the hunt up north isn't that important to me.

Next time don't go all the way to Baldwin in fact don't even go to Read City. Stop in Evart Just a bit north of town is a tract of state land called the McCormick tract by the locals. It should have very good bow hunting and not over run by bow hunters. The season opens Oct 1st. It is in a DMU area where bucks must have 3 points on one side to be legal. There is a camp ground 9 miles north of town on 15 mile road across the road from sun rise lake.

If you saw a 10 point buck 75 yds away, you did darn good. I saw 1 decent buck last fall and a 4 point. I saw 1 buck all the season before, gun and bow.At least I got that one.
