Beware of the advice that you do not have to report Squirrel harvest. That is simply untrue for most State owned land. Most State ground also requires site specific permits. The IDNR website is your best bet for the rules for a particular parcel state owned ground.

How about hunting on private land? Are there still seasons or is it anytime? I'm guessing you can use a .22 on it as well?

There are still seasons (Aug 1 to Feb 15, as I recall), but I don't think there's any restrictions on .22s.

The way our deer herd has been managed since 2007, soon we'll all be fighting for good public land for squirrel hunting.

I've always been a proponent of the LWS -- Late Winter Squirrel -- after archery closes at some of the sites around me that don't have an early squirrel season. (I'm only half joking)
