Nebraska Rifle
 

I'm fairly new around here, but have been reading many threads over the past few weeks.

I've bowhunted in Ohio now for over 17 years and am finally wanting to get out of the state and check some other places out. A buddy and I are considering going to Nebraska next fall to do a rifle hunt on public land. Now I know the usual repsonse to public land, "it's packed" etc. However, my question is, if you are willing to put in the miles to get back away from the roads is there a legitimate chance at having an enjoyable hunt.

I understand public land is public land, and I don't expect to have it all to myself. However, we are all for walking hours if need be to get away from the masses, I'm just curious if it is actually possible to do. I know there isn't a whole ton of public land in Nebraska, relative to other western states and my expectations aren't to shoot a 180" whitetail or 200" mulie either. Just looking for somewhere different with a change of scenery from what we're use to in Ohio.

Try the public land in the Kepaha unit or the sand hills unit. While you are there ask permission to hunt on some private land and you'll be suprised as to how many say yes.
