Default White Deer

I saw a picture of a white buck tonight. Solid white with eleven points except he had a little patch of black below his right eye. With the patch of black, he got shot. Are you allowed to shoot albinos? Was he an albino? Just doesn't seem ethical to me but too late except for the sausage.

There are albinos and white deer. They are different critters. Around here, you can buy white deer at the exotic sales for a pretty penny. They sometimes will produce white offspring...but not always.

An albino won't necessarily produce albino offspring. Albinism is a "freak" occurrance.

Hope this helps.

I saw an albino for the first time this past October during bow season. It was eating acorns about 50 yards from me. Never came close enough to offer a shot, but I think I would have taken it if it did. The deer was killed about 3 weeks later about (300 yards from where I saw him) on opening weekend of shotgun season and was an 8 point. Big bodied
but small rack. I only wish I had my video camera instead of my bow when I saw him. This was in Indiana by the way.

The rules in Illinois don't actually use the term elbino. They just say "All White" deer are illegal to shoot. If they have any brown at all, they ARE legal. I've seen 8 or so, including a huge racked buck. While they are interesting, I would hate to see them become too heavily populated as they are genetically defective. They sure do stand out from a long distance away.
