Default DIY South Dakota turkey hunt

I want to start planning a DIY hunt for turkeys out in the Black HIlls area. Anyone done it before any advice where to start looking, i know there are tons of public land out there

My wife and I have done it before, it's an awesome place to hunt. Sounds odd but track down the game warden around Custer and he will tell you where the birds are. Really nice guy and he doesn't send everyone in the same direction that he talks to. The local land owners are usally a 50/50 shot or better, pretty good people.
