How far for Merriams?

Wondering how far into Neb. I am going to have to go to get into a decent merriam population. Coming from Ohio, so if I can help it, I really don't want to drive to the far Northwest corner. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks much

I used to live in North central Nebraska years ago and there were plenty ot Turkeys around but you need to ask permission, because it is all private ground. When we live there the Pine Ridge National Forest had large numbers of turkeys. I is just south of Chadron. A good source of inormation can be obtained by calling the US Forest Service headquarters in Fort Robinson. We used to call to get maps and get population numbers for anelope. The wildlife biologist should have the information on turkeys too. There is the Samuel Mc Kelve Nat. Forest near Valentine but I don't have any information.
