RE: COMING SOON, Elk hunting in Wisconsin!
This is just more proof that the DNR is aware of the problems and are looking for answers. Last year the DNR was telling us there are too many deer, this year they are singing a totally different tune and are scrambling to figure out where we are and what to do next. We can point fingers and complain, or we can put our heads together and figure this mess out. The most encouraging part is that the DNR has admitted it's mistakes, are asking questions and looking for answers. That's a big improvement over last year and a big step in the right dirrection.
On a lighter note, the elk calving season has started and A couple weeks ago the first bull calf of the season was born and recorded. Let's all hope and pray for many more to be born healthy this spring. Every year RMEF and the DNR go out with biologists and volunteers to find, count and research the new born calves. Members of RMEF have the opportunity to take part in counting calves, they also have a weekend that members go out and look for antler sheds as well as organize habitat restoration projects to improve public hunting land and opportunities. Great opportunities for people to learn more, get out into the woods and have fun while helping out. Sign up and let's see what we can do to make a difference.
