Don't believe Obama on guns

Just in case you don't fully believe the NRA, this is direct fromObama's own web site [>:]

http://www.barackobama.com/factcheck/2007/12/11/fact_check_no_news_in_obamas_c.php

Obama Supported A Package Of Legislation That Would Limit Handgun Sales To One A Month. ''The package closes the Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card loopholes which resulted in the shooting out in Melrose Park. We're eliminating 17 specific assault weapons. There is no reason why anybody should need an assault weapon to protect themselves or their family,' Obama said. 'We're limiting handgun sales to one a month. 'We're calling for handgun registration. It's very hard right now to track whether or not a felon has turned in his weapons or if he has a FOID card because we don't know how many weapons he has purchased.'" [Chicago Defender, 2/20/01]
Obama Voted To Prohibit Multiple Sales Of Handguns Within A 30-Day Period. In 2003, Obama voted to create the offense of unlawful acquisition of handguns, prohibiting the multiple sales of handguns within a 30-day period. In 2000, Obama was co-sponsor of bill prohibiting the transfer of more than one handgun within a 30-day period. The bill exempted federally licensed firearm dealers who purchase handguns in the regular course of business, military, law enforcement officials and certain hunters. [93rd GA, HB 2579, 5/16/03, 3R L; 23-36-0; 91st GA; SB 1614; 2000]
Obama Disagreed With The NRA That "People Should Be Unimpeded And Unregulated On Gun Ownership;" In Favor Of Handgun Registration And Licensing Requirements. Obama said, "I know that the NRA believes people should be unimpeded and unregulated on gun ownership. I disagree. I do not object to the lawful use and ownership of firearms, but I do think it is entirely it appropriate for the state to monitor it. Too many of these guns end up in the hands of criminals even though they were originally purchased by people who did not have a felony. I'll continue to be in favor of handgun law registration requirements and licensing requirements for training." [Chicago Defender, 7/5/01]

Now, in no way am I saying that I support Obama, but...

I've heard a lot of people on this website saying that Obama is going to take away ALL guns. From the selection that you copied to your post, I almost completely agree with what he's saying, except for the assault rifle part.

All he's saying is that he doesn't want felons to be able to purchase guns, and by disagreeing with what is stated above, you DO want felons to be able to go to a store and buy a firearm...that makes sense, right?

Honestly, are you going to buy more than 12 handguns a year? Not to mention he says that people that can buy more than one handgun a month are "certain hunters". So who knows what that means; if you have a clean record, are of age, and have hunters safety, you can buy more than one a month.

RE: Don't believe Obama on guns

Lordgunner, you have to understand what Obama is calling an "assault rifle". The assault rifle ban that was passed in Cook Co (Blago wants it to be passed State wide) identifies any shotgun or rifle capable of hold 5 or more rounds as an assault rifle, ALL .50 cal weapons (includes blackpowder) as an assault rifle, and any shotgun or rifle with thumbhole stock as an assault rifle. There are many other things in the ban as well, but what they (Blago and Obama) classify as an assault rifle is why hunters cannot support either one of these snakes.

I guessing that because Obama is the only one mentioned that McCain isn't included in this warning. I don't believe any of them, I'm not supporting anyone who has proven over and over they'd sell out the people that put them there, and anyone who now does is the reason this country is in the shape it's in.

Put McCain there and see how he repays you. I rather be stabbed facing the person then stabbed in the back. And I'll add this, if McCain is elected gas will be 6-7 bucks a gallon the next time he runs. Why you people continue to support these phony conservatives who are bought and paid for by corupt big business's is beyond me, is destroying the country and kicking yourselves in the balls.

Dislike Obama all you want but you got nothing to offer. Your blind to years of McCainism if you trust him and a woman VP, get real. If she is pro gun it's not for the rule of law, it's because she hates some people and dreams of blowing them away. You may like this but it just proves that emotion will be the guide, not right and wrong, not the constitution, but menstration.

If the government finds guns a threat it will pass laws to get rid of them unless it causes them to loose power. They're already doing an end around to not let people who have ever been perscribed an anti depressant of any kind at any time in their life, carry. Many people don't even know the drug their being given is one.

A felon? What kind? All felons? Do you think people buy guns for conversation peices? If the majority of people carried a hand gun 9/11 would never have happened. If times get bad enough people will flock to people who carry for there own good, they'll be hero's.

Neither of them will protect the law abidings rite to freedom. Freedom is the issue, not just the rite to carry.

I agree we need to keep violent criminals from owning guns. I also believe a criminal will still get guns no matter what laws are passed. I will not vote for anyone who tries to limit any law abiding citizen from owning a gun or having to license them. Anything these anti-gun people gain even if small is a win to them and a kick in the pants to us law abiding citizens. They will continue to take little by little if we allow any of them in office. It was mentioned earlier if McCain gets in, gas will be $6-7 gallon. I don't believe that, but I would rather pay that much for fuel than have more gun restrictions. If gas is that high, at least the numb nut democrats will be suffering too. They will not suffer from gun laws.

From Illinois, the people who know Obama bestñ
Illinois State Rifle Association Executive Director Richard Pearson Issues Open Letter to Nation's Sportsmen Regarding Obama's History in the Illinois Senate

Last update: 1:06 a.m. EDT Oct. 15, 2008

CHICAGO, Oct 15, 2008 /PRNewswire-USNewswire via COMTEX/ -- The following is the text of an open letter to the nation's hunters and sportsmen issued today by Illinois State Rifle Association Executive Director Richard Pearson: Fellow Sportsman, Hello, my name is Rich Pearson and I have been active in the firearm rights movement for over 40 years. For the past 15 years, I have served in the Illinois state capitol as the chief lobbyist for the Illinois State Rifle Association. I lobbied Barack Obama extensively while he was an Illinois State Senator. As a result of that experience, I know Obama's attitudes toward guns and gun owners better than anyone. The truth be told, in all my years in the Capitol I have never met a legislator who harbors more contempt for the law-abiding firearm owner than does Barack Obama. Although Obama claims to be an advocate for the 2nd Amendment, his voting record in the Illinois Senate paints a very different picture. While a state senator, Obama voted for a bill that would ban nearly every hunting rifle, shotgun and target rifle owned by Illinois citizens. That same bill would authorize the state police to raid homes of gun owners to forcibly confiscate banned guns. Obama supported a bill that would shut down law-abiding firearm manufacturers including Springfield Armory, Armalite, Rock River Arms and Les Baer. Obama also voted for a bill that would prohibit law-abiding citizens from purchasing more than one gun per month. Without a doubt, Barack Obama has proven himself to be an enemy of the law abiding firearm owner. At the same time, Obama has proven himself to be a friend to the hardened criminal. While a state senator, Obama voted 4 times against legislation that would allow a homeowner to use a firearm in defense of home and family. Does Barack Obama still sound to you like a "friend" of the law-abiding gun owner? And speaking of friends, you can always tell a person by the company they keep. Obama counts among his friends the Rev. Michael Pfleger - a renegade Chicago priest who has openly called for the murder of gun shop owners and pro-gun legislators. Then there is his buddy Richard Daley, the mayor of Chicago who has declared that if it were up to him, nobody would be allowed to own a gun. And let's not forget Obama's pal George Soros - the guy who has pumped millions of dollars into the UN's international effort to disarm law-abiding citizens. Obama has shown that he is more than willing to use other people's money to fund his campaign to take your guns away from you. While a board member of the leftist Joyce Foundation, Barack Obama wrote checks for tens of millions of dollars to extremist gun control organizations such as the Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence and the Violence Policy Center. Does Barack Obama still sound to you like a "friend" of the law-abiding gun owner? By now, I'm sure that many of you have received mailings from an organization called "American Hunters and Shooters Association(AHSA)" talking about what a swell fellow Obama is and how he honors the 2nd Amendment and how you will never have to worry about Obama coming to take your guns. Let me make it perfectly clear - everything the AHSA says about Obama is pure hogwash. The AHSA is headed by a group of left-wing elitists who subscribe to the British view of hunting and shooting. That is, a state of affairs where hunting and shooting are reserved for the wealthy upper-crust who can afford guided hunts on exclusive private reserves. The AHSA is not your friend, never will be. In closing, I'd like to remind you that I'm a guy who has actually gone nose to nose with Obama on gun rights issues. The Obama I know cannot even begin to identify with this nation's outdoor traditions. The Obama I know sees you, the law abiding gun owner, as nothing but a low-class lummox who is easily swayed by the flash of a smile and a ration of rosy rhetoric. The Obama I know is a stony-faced liar who has honed his skill at getting what he wants - so long as people are willing to give it to him. That's the Barack Obama I know. The ISRA is the state's leading advocate of safe, lawful and responsible firearms ownership. Founded in 1903, the ISRA has represented the interests of millions of law-abiding Illinois firearm owners.

RE: Don't believe Obama on guns

yeap i think we need stonger laws for people selling guns illegaly or who are criminals. say five years for someone who is a felon or selling a felon a gun. say 6 months first offense for someone one who is legaly allowed to have a gun but selling it to someone not able to own one. and if they know it 1 to 3 years.
If you have to buy a gun legaly then there most be some reason why you will not go to a gun store. Now i have no proplem with two people selling a gun to one another as long as they follow the laws.

and are we really that worried about our guns that we would vote for this reason over our job security and possibility of retirement and our economy as a whole?

Well, Mohunter, not to be harsh, but if your friends retirement is not gonna recover then he should probably focus on something that can be saved in the long run, his gun rights. And if you are planning on any candidate to guarantee your social security, you are in for abig surprise. Its one thingto be an idealist and think aloud about what a candidate might do or not do. Its another to be pragmatic in terms of what youknow they will do or not do based on their past record.

im new to this forum just found it today when i got my MLs but as far as felons getting firearms. A felon can get a firearm no problem. Laws are in effect to define societal parameters if a person is a felon they obviously disregard those self same laws. Why are they concerned with a law that says they can only have 1 handgun a month they are criminals. Have any idea how easy it is to be convicted of a felony now a days? Its getting easier daily. As far as obama this is just another reason of many why he shouldnt be elected. If anything a politician does effects your retirement in say the next 2 years you better get some better financial advise cause your in trouble as it is. Seems to me that the choices we have for president is a matter of the lesser of 2 evils.

Why is your co-worker worried about his retirement 2 years from now. Is it because the stock market is on the skids due to the Freddie Mac & Fannie Mae scandal that is caused from DEMOCRATS ignoring it and going on record saying it is fine. Why did the Democrats ignore it. Cuz they were the ones breathing down the banks necks telling them to give loans to anyone that can breath all the way back to the Clinton administration until a month ago. Give everyone a chancewhether they deserve it or not and spread the wealth mentality.
Tell your right guy for the country "obama" to give some of theBIG contributions he received from Fannie Mae toyour co-worker. The 3 biggest recepients from Fannie Mae are all Democrats and Obama was 3rd andonly in the senate for what 2-3 years and 2 of them running for President. LOL

You can have your Liberal Majority in the White House and Congress...maybe they will tax the hell out ofthe"richowner of your company" and he willlay you and your co-worker offand give you really something to worry about. Or maybe you can spread the wealth and help your fellow co-worker.

if you think that this one matter, that matter that he is out there to take our guns is not a good enough decision to dicide who we vote for, wrong. look at england, they took there guns away from the inocent and what happeneed to crime rates. they sky rocketed. do you expect the government and obama to protect you when you gunless. get real, hopefully you can still keep your swiss army knife. What obama doesnt realize is that weapons in the law abiding citizens is the best thing that could happen. i am a ccw carryer in Mi, and when i took the class they showed us numbers and statistics of how the crime rate went down as the number of ccw''s ownership went up. its common sense. anyone with a brain knows that you can always take away and put more restrictions on the law abiding citizen, BUT the criminal will alwyws have there's. Its been proven that a criminal upon being released from prison can have a gun in his possesion within 5 minutes. What obama is trying to do is music in there ears. And all of you who think that your are voting him for your SS and retirement and your family because of the economy is BS. Gun ownership is the most important thing in our lifes right now as criminal rates rise and the economy suffers. It you vote for obama dont come running for my door when your guns are gone and you still dont have your retirement and the criminals are on the rise. I would say that would be the poorest mistake you could make in looking out for you self and your family.

RE: Don't believe Obama on guns

well if your gonna vote for obama to protect your future as in your SS and 401k, think again. The new Democrate idea is to take everyones 401k's and stick them into bonds. They will not be your 401k they will be the governments. And instead of you being taxed accordingly to you income levels we will all be taxed the same to make it fair. High income people will come out easily and the lower class hit hard. Oh but they will give you 600 dollars to call it fair. now why would you want to take your 401k that has averaged over time around 12% and instead put it in bonds and get 3%?? Obviously this is another poor decision by the democrates thinking the government is the best for running your life, as they obviously just proved by costing us 845 billion dolllars. And tothink that your gun rights and hunting rights are a small part of the pic, think again

In just a few days, on November 4, gun owners will be presented with a very clear choice of a pro-Second Amendment versus an anti-Second Amendment Presidential ticket. John McCain and Sarah Palin versus Barack Obama and Joe Biden represents a stark contrast for the future of our freedom.
In that choice, one fact is foremost:
The next president, by filling inevitable vacancies on the U.S. Supreme Court, will determine the continued existence of our Right To Keep and Bear Arms.
The landmark Heller decision by the U.S. Supreme Court--which struck down the D.C. gun ban and its attendant criminalizing of armed self-defense in the home--was decided by a one vote margin, in a 5-4 decision. The court's decision was aided by briefs filed by Congress and states--briefs signed by John McCain and by Palin's state of Alaska.
The next president, by filling inevitable vacancies on the U.S. Supreme Court, will determine the continued existence of the Right to Keep and Bear Arms.
Barack Obama and Joe Biden refused to sign in support of the Second Amendment. But for President George W. Bush's two high court nominations, it could easily have gone the other way. Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. and Associate Justice Samuel Alito truly made the difference. Keep in mind that Barack Obama and the man who is now his running mate, U.S. Sen. Joseph Biden, voted against confirming both.
And Biden, one-time chairman of the powerful Senate Judiciary Committee, was radically opposed and used every trick in the book including the threat of a filibuster to kill the confirmation process.
Gun owners have U.S. Sen. John McCain to thank for quashing Biden's filibuster moves and brokering the Senate agreement that allowed confirmation. If Biden had his way, the Senate could have stalled indefinitely, leaving two vacancies unfilled, and creating a seven-member court dominated by the very justices who opposed the Second Amendment as protection for a broad, individual right.
Biden told the NAACP during his own losing primary bid for the Democratic presidential nomination:
"The next president is likely to name at least one, if not three new Supreme Court justices. We should start this national debate by recognizing the truth--that Roberts and Alito have turned the court upside down … . I guarantee you that will change."
Turning “the court upside down …” As in upholding the Second Amendment.
Biden's pledge came in an important context. With funding from globalist gun-banner George Soros, the NAACP filed the most onerous litigation de-signed by our enemies to drive America's firearm industry into bankruptcy.
That suit, argued before Brooklyn, N.Y., U.S. District Judge Jack B. Weinstein, claimed that virtually all elements of the federally regulated and lawful firearm industry were collectively responsible for the totally unrelated illegal acts of armed, violent criminals. The suit ultimately was a loser, but cost consumers millions of dollars in legal fees. It was one of a string of serial, punitive lawsuits brought before lifetime-appointee Weinstein.
And on that score, the last such lawsuit before Weinstein was thrown out by the U.S. Court of Appeals, which ruled the litigation violated the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, the NRA-backed 2005 law--a law vehemently opposed by Obama and Biden.
If the Obama and Biden team has its way, the nation will again be flooded with hundreds of such suits creating what one gun-ban lawyer called "death by a thousand cuts." Under an Obama-Biden administration, the lower federal courts would resemble cloned versions of Weinstein's Brooklyn star chamber.
During the remarkable Saddleback forum, Obama attacked the nominations of Associate Justice Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia, author of the brilliant Heller decision. Counted with his “no” votes against Roberts and Alito, that's an Obama thumbs down for four of the five justices who rendered the Supreme Court's definitive decision upholding the Second Amendment as protecting an individual right and recognizing the right to armed self-defense in the home.
In this last column before we go to the polls I must make an additional point. While we have disagreed in the past with Sen. McCain on a few specific issues, these disagreements pale in comparison to what the future would be like for gun owners if an Obama-Biden regime were to control all organs of federal power and land a one-two punch against freedom.
John McCain's running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, is an NRA Life member, life-long gun owner, hunter and staunch Second Amendment supporter. She is an electrifying force for preservation and expansion of all the gains we have made in the past decades.
I found it remarkable that in every story announcing her selection she was described as a "lifetime" member of the NRA. She is indeed proud of her Life membership. Suddenly the phony poses of Obama and Biden wrapping themselves around the Second Amendment are stripped to their essence--a semantic trick designed to fool gun owners. You can't let that happen.
Your vote is a remarkable power that you must wield to preserve the Second Amendment. With all of this, there is a simple message. Vote. Get your friends, family and co-workers to vote. And vote for the only ticket that will uphold our Freedom. Vote for the Second Amendment. Vote for the McCain-Palin ticket!

well if your gonna vote for obama to protect your future as in your SS and 401k, think again.
