Default Don't believe Obama on guns

Just in case you don't fully believe the NRA, this is direct fromObama's own web site [>:]

http://www.barackobama.com/factcheck/2007/12/11/fact_check_no_news_in_obamas_c.php

Obama Supported A Package Of Legislation That Would Limit Handgun Sales To One A Month. ''The package closes the Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card loopholes which resulted in the shooting out in Melrose Park. We're eliminating 17 specific assault weapons. There is no reason why anybody should need an assault weapon to protect themselves or their family,' Obama said. 'We're limiting handgun sales to one a month. 'We're calling for handgun registration. It's very hard right now to track whether or not a felon has turned in his weapons or if he has a FOID card because we don't know how many weapons he has purchased.'" [Chicago Defender, 2/20/01]
Obama Voted To Prohibit Multiple Sales Of Handguns Within A 30-Day Period. In 2003, Obama voted to create the offense of unlawful acquisition of handguns, prohibiting the multiple sales of handguns within a 30-day period. In 2000, Obama was co-sponsor of bill prohibiting the transfer of more than one handgun within a 30-day period. The bill exempted federally licensed firearm dealers who purchase handguns in the regular course of business, military, law enforcement officials and certain hunters. [93rd GA, HB 2579, 5/16/03, 3R L; 23-36-0; 91st GA; SB 1614; 2000]
Obama Disagreed With The NRA That "People Should Be Unimpeded And Unregulated On Gun Ownership;" In Favor Of Handgun Registration And Licensing Requirements. Obama said, "I know that the NRA believes people should be unimpeded and unregulated on gun ownership. I disagree. I do not object to the lawful use and ownership of firearms, but I do think it is entirely it appropriate for the state to monitor it. Too many of these guns end up in the hands of criminals even though they were originally purchased by people who did not have a felony. I'll continue to be in favor of handgun law registration requirements and licensing requirements for training." [Chicago Defender, 7/5/01]

Now, in no way am I saying that I support Obama, but...

I've heard a lot of people on this website saying that Obama is going to take away ALL guns. From the selection that you copied to your post, I almost completely agree with what he's saying, except for the assault rifle part.

All he's saying is that he doesn't want felons to be able to purchase guns, and by disagreeing with what is stated above, you DO want felons to be able to go to a store and buy a firearm...that makes sense, right?

Honestly, are you going to buy more than 12 handguns a year? Not to mention he says that people that can buy more than one handgun a month are "certain hunters". So who knows what that means; if you have a clean record, are of age, and have hunters safety, you can buy more than one a month.

Lordgunner, you have to understand what Obama is calling an "assault rifle". The assault rifle ban that was passed in Cook Co (Blago wants it to be passed State wide) identifies any shotgun or rifle capable of hold 5 or more rounds as an assault rifle, ALL .50 cal weapons (includes blackpowder) as an assault rifle, and any shotgun or rifle with thumbhole stock as an assault rifle. There are many other things in the ban as well, but what they (Blago and Obama) classify as an assault rifle is why hunters cannot support either one of these snakes.

If you honestly think Obama would stop here, you are not familiar with the average politician who is a product of the Chicago Democrat machine. The above is just a first step.

I guessing that because Obama is the only one mentioned that McCain isn't included in this warning. I don't believe any of them, I'm not supporting anyone who has proven over and over they'd sell out the people that put them there, and anyone who now does is the reason this country is in the shape it's in.

Put McCain there and see how he repays you. I rather be stabbed facing the person then stabbed in the back. And I'll add this, if McCain is elected gas will be 6-7 bucks a gallon the next time he runs. Why you people continue to support these phony conservatives who are bought and paid for by corupt big business's is beyond me, is destroying the country and kicking yourselves in the balls.

Dislike Obama all you want but you got nothing to offer. Your blind to years of McCainism if you trust him and a woman VP, get real. If she is pro gun it's not for the rule of law, it's because she hates some people and dreams of blowing them away. You may like this but it just proves that emotion will be the guide, not right and wrong, not the constitution, but menstration.

If the government finds guns a threat it will pass laws to get rid of them unless it causes them to loose power. They're already doing an end around to not let people who have ever been perscribed an anti depressant of any kind at any time in their life, carry. Many people don't even know the drug their being given is one.

A felon? What kind? All felons? Do you think people buy guns for conversation peices? If the majority of people carried a hand gun 9/11 would never have happened. If times get bad enough people will flock to people who carry for there own good, they'll be hero's.

Neither of them will protect the law abidings rite to freedom. Freedom is the issue, not just the rite to carry.
