Corn harvest in west central Illinois
Would some of you locals give me an update on how far along the corn is toward maturity? When would you guess the 2008 harvest will get started? Thanks for the info.

RE: Corn harvest in west central Illinois
I would say the harvest in or around Nashville and Pinkneyville area is going to be some time in November for sure but not any sooner on the farm I hunt due to the wet spring and late planting.

RE: Corn harvest in west central Illinois
the corn on our farms in the Mt. Sterling area will be cut mid October

RE: Corn harvest in west central Illinois
In Madison Co we are already chopping some corn for feed. I would say in the next two weeks all the corn that is going to be chopped will be chopped. Mid Oct to late Oct the rest should be ready to come down.

BHC, That's what I'm hoping. I'll be on my lease in Brown Co. October 11-14 to hang stands and hunt a little. Maybe the corn will be cut by then. It was some of the earliest planted in that area.

Here in Pike and Brown Co. it should be starting first week of Oct. Some fields will start in a week or two though. Where you boys from in Brown Co.?

From New Jersey, we have 3000 acres in the Mt. Sterling area

Most of the fields around where we hunt in Hancock county are going to be late. They were planted a little later than normal, they've had ample rain through their growing season, and now we've started off fall very wet. I hope that most of the corn is gone by the end of October, but in the low lying areas, I wouldn't be surprised to see corn into November. Bad news for field edge hunting.

This will probably be the latest harvest IL. has had in quite a few years. It was a very wet spring and one of the latest planting seasons I've seen. Early season may be tough this year if you have a lot of corn around you.

Our Brown County lease is usually cut during the first two weeks in October. Your Oct 11-14 dates are probably right on the bubble

When you get lemons, make lemonaid. Hunt the edge in low light times, and if it's a windy day, stalk into the wind. You can get pretty close on a windy morning. I have done it some ,and have killed deer in the corn early season with the bow.

Peoria and Woodford Counties are starting the corn and bean harvest. Looks like it just depends on when they got in the fields in the spring.

They are saying on our farm that the last of the corn will be out the 2nd week of Nov.

RE: Corn harvest in west central Illinois
I found out tonight that part of my farm was planted in an earlier variety and has already been combined. The rest should be out in a week or two, depending on weather.

Look to see farmers running very hard from here on out. MOST of the corn I've been seeing is very close if not ready to be shelled. A lot of beans are ready also, with the exception of a few fields that were obviously planted very late due to the wet spring.
So far, the harvest is maybe around 10-15%, but don't let that be misleading. Most guys are going to be in overdrive due to the fact that with every day that goes by, the possibility of lower harvest volumes goes up. Look to see a huge amount of fields being pulled in the next 10 days. Unfortunately, many of the fields that are running late are in low lying areas, or near creekbeds that recieved a lot of water runoff, which can be a negative for deer hunters for a little while. The harvest is a little late, but I don't think that it will be as late as some estimates. |

Talked to the guy who planted corn on our lease, he is planning on cutting in 2 weeks. Right around the 18-19th, That should be a great weekend to be in the stands. If I remember right that is pretty close to the time they cut last year.on a side note, most of the corn we saw on our drive was still a little green.

Raining a little bit today....

Anymore updates on the corn?

RE: Corn harvest in west central Illinois
Got back from Mount Sterling last Tuesday (14th). Our farmer had cut some corn, then switched to beans. He was supposed to finish his beans midweek, then go back to corn. He said it would take him about 2 weeks to finish his corn barring any bad weather. It has been wet several days since we left, but I'm hoping he'll finish our leasebefore I go back on the 30th.

RE: Corn harvest in west central Illinois
Right now in the Brown, Adams, and Hancock areas most farmers are hitting the corn pretty hard....Hopefully be done by first of November or shortly after...
