After years of sitting in 80º during the early parts of October, I think this year will be the year I take the boat to the lake on the weekendsif it's that warm out. I've battled the bugs and heat for too long. Not to mention, I have the end of October and the first few days of November off of work.

If the highs are in the 70º's opening day/weekend though, I'll be in a tree!

I'll do what i do every year and wait about 2 weeks or so before i enter the woods to hunt. The early part of the season has never been good to me. Too many standing crops and too warm still. One good thing this year is that there are no corn fields on the property i hunt, it's all in beans. I have been driving out and checking fields almost nightly the last 2 weeks, seeing a lot of does, but no bucks, not coming out until right at dark. I already have a buck im interested in though, he was with the 8 point i shot last year and then i seen him again opening morning of shotgun. He was a 9 point last year, perfect rack, but was still a little young. I'm interested in seeing what another year has done for him if he made it through. I got both my deer last year in a one week span, a doe on the 4th of November and my buck on the 10th.

1 more day. It also looks like it's shaping up to be one of the coolest opening days in recent memory. In '04 we had frost on the ground October 1st, which is when my brother shot his1st ever buck.

I went out this evening to a family farm 5 minutes from home. Someone stole my bow-hanger, and I found out I need to do a bunch more trimming. Couldn't see anything unless it was directly in front of me or behind me. Realistically, I have no idea if the deer were moving or not.
