Mountain Lion Spotted in WI
My parents live in Norwalk Wi which is 20 minutes south of Sparta, I was informed on Sunday that there has been a mountain lion roaming the little village of Norwalk. It has killed cattle and has been spotted right in town. Apparently the DNR is aware of it yet they seem to be doing nothing to trap it and move it to a more secluded area, I guess they are waiting for someone to get killed before they do anything. What would you do if you were to come face to face with a mountain lion during a hunt?

I'd have my knife ready, and I'd make myself look as big as possible like they say to do....open up my jacket, spread it out like batman, and perhaps back up slowly, depending how close...., avoid eye contact but id watch him.
PS- it would most likely be a bow hunt, but if I had a gun, then I really wouldn't feel too vulnerable.

Just a word of caution when carrying pistols during bow season.............It's illegal to posses firearms while bowhunting, so i'd be careful packing heat........Mtn lions aren't as deadly as most people think especially to adults, small kids are a different story, if you have a bow and are a good shot, why be worried????

i have never heard of carrying a gun while bowhunting to be illegal as long as it is not concealed and you are over 18 you can carry when ever in as long as it is in sight and i know several guys that do it and are seen doing it with out a problem and if the dnr had a stupid rule as such is not in in the hunting regs.

RE: Mountain Lion Spotted in WI
This is one of several pictures that came in the E-mail tonight. It was supposedly taken near Arcadia,WI near La Crosse. NOte that there are 3, but they are looking at something, probably the 4th.
Between this and the wolf & cougar sightings I have had, regs or not, Yes I will carry. Four of these things is no match for a bow hunter. They also climb trees. Filleted from Wikipedia..
The length of adult males is around 8ft long nose to tail, with overall ranges between 5 and 9ft nose to tail suggested for the species in general. Males have an average weight of about 115 to 160pounds. In rare cases, some may reach over 260lb. Female average weight is between 75 and 105lb.
(Thier..) ..physique allows it great leaping and short-sprint ability. An exceptional vertical leap of 18ft is reported for the cougar. Horizontal jumping capability is suggested anywhere from 20 to 40ft. The cougar can run as fast as 35mph but is best adapted for short, powerful sprints rather than long chases. It is adept at climbing, which allows it to evade canine competitors.
SO let me get this straight.. we are infested with cougars that can go 260 pounds, can leap 18 feet high and 40 feet across, hang out in groups (picture) and we are not supposed to carry? Good luck with that. I'll pay the fine.
Good luck & best wishes!
