Indiana question
I recently bought 15 acres in SE Indiana for deer hunting. I live in SW Ohio. My question is this: The rule for Indiana DNR says that you must be a resident for atleast 60 days before you can buy a resident license. I have had the property for about four months now and I am there every single weekend and a few days during the week either fishing, working on/checking my food plot, and checking trail cams... However, I still live in my home in SW Ohio. Can I buy a Indiana resident tag because I have ownedthe property for well over 60 days? Or Do I literally have to sleep there to be considered a resident lol? There is a double wide trailer on the property that I fixed up, but My question is could I buy a resident license or would I have to actually move in to the trailer and have it documented. I tried getting info from the DNR but the number I called would not put me through to an actual person to ask.. Anyone know?
I appreciate any knowledge you could give me? Adam Bowman Southwest Ohio/Southeast Indiana |
RE: Indiana question

RE: Indiana question
Ya, it does not matter where you live. The way the state works it if you own the land you don't need a licence. Just go hunt. If you kill one you just get a piece of paper and record the necessary info like name, address, date of kill, method of take. Then take it to a check station. I owned land and bought resident tags for 5 years there before someone pointed that out to me.

RE: Indiana question
Landowner tags in Indiana are just a legal way to poach, I am against them and my family even owns land. Good luck

RE: Indiana question
Alright thanks for the information everyone, thats good news.. Beehunter--I'm a little confused, are you saying that I would be poaching by hunting on the land I specifically bought to deer hunt on?
|
RE: Indiana question
Indiana sounds damn reasonable about letting landowners hunt their own ground.

RE: Indiana question
I know in IL you need to own I think 80 acres to get landowner tags and qualify as a "landowner" 15 acres wouldn't cut it here.
As far as non/res vs res, since you live in Ohio, I would say you'll never qualify as a resident of IN, only option is as said above.....if you'll qualify for landowner tags. Good Luck. |
RE: Indiana question
40 acres is the requirement in Illinois. Based on that acreage you can qualify for either resident landowner tags that are free or dirt cheap, or NR landowner tags that are quite a bit less than th regular NR tags, but I think still cost a pretty penny. I am all for lowering the minimal acreage requirement to 29 acres[8D]

RE: Indiana question
What is the acreage requirement for indiana??

RE: Indiana question
Since you claim residency in Ohio, it appears you qualify to hunt under a non-resident landowner tag in Indiana. Some facts about Indiana hunting:
Hunting You must have and carry a valid license and applicable state stamps to hunt any wild animal, with exceptions as follows [ul][*]Residents or non-residents participating in a field trial sanctioned by the DNR director.[*]Landowners, or lessees of farmland who farm that land and are residents of Indiana, their spouses and children living with them, while hunting, fishing or trapping on the land they own or lease.[*]Residents of Indiana engaged in full-time military service and who are carrying their leave orders and a valid Indiana driver’s license or Indiana voter registration card.[*]Non-resident military personnel on active duty and stationed within Indiana may hunt or fish with a resident license.[*]An individual who is less than 13 years of age; does not possess a bow or firearm; and is accompanied by an individual who is at least 18 years of age and holds a valid license. [/ul] Indiana Resident A resident is a person whose true fixed and permanent home and principal residence has been in Indiana for 60 consecutive days prior to purchasing a license or permit and who does not claim residency for hunting, trapping or fishing in another state or country, other than the U.S. All others are non-residents. Harassment of Hunters, Trappers and Anglers It is illegal to intentionally interfere with the legal taking of a game animal by another person on public land, or on private land without permission of the landowner. Non-resident landowner exemptions Some non-resident Indiana landowners are exempt from Indiana hunting, fishing and trapping license requirements. Indiana law exempts a non-resident landowner according to the exemption that the non-resident’s state provides for Indiana residents. The non-resident must possess proof of ownership of the farmland while hunting (i.e. tax receipt). Owners of Indiana farmland, their spouses and children who live with them are exempt from license requirements while hunting or trapping on their land if they are residents of one of the following states and meet the additional listed conditions: [ul][*]Vermont[*]Iowa (small game only)[*]Virginia[*]North Carolina[*]Wisconsin (small game only)[*]Ohio [/ul] Landowners who are residents from states not listed must have and carry a valid non-resident license to hunt any wild animal. All non-resident landowners are required to have a valid non-resident license when hunting on land other than their own. The law does not exempt non-residents who lease land in Indiana. Non-resident lessees are still required to purchase non-resident hunting and trapping licenses. |
RE: Indiana question
That just about clears it up.

RE: Indiana question
What county are you in? I hunt Jefferson/Switerland. I always took is as you had to live there for 60 days in a row.

RE: Indiana question
i think that is only if you live on the land and farm it
ORIGINAL: deerhunter1224 Since you own the ground dont need a license. |
RE: Indiana question
i read it it says you must be from a state that has the same reg. for indiana hunters as indiana does for non res.
