Big Cat in Ohio

Just saw a blurb in the paper about some recent "big cat' sightings up around Lima, Ohio. Anybody hear anything about it.

Think again. Did ya know that NW ohio was considered uninhabitable in large part to the wolves, bears and cats before it was settled. The south was settled long before we were. There's been talk around my area (wood county) for a while.

A man named Henry Howe wrote the history of Ohio twice, once around 1850 and again around 1880. He went trough all 88 counties and documented their history. A fascinating read if you like local history and much of it is avalable on line. There's a great story of a man who hunted a cat while deer hunting after the cat did a number on his dog.

No such thing. They killed on in Omaha, NE last summer. Within the city near a park that is always full of people. We have them all over SD. There are a lot of them out on the prairie. Very adaptable animal.

They ran over one here, male that weighed 130 lbs, on the interstate Saturday night. He was crossing from one residential area into another.

Thats why i cant understand these folks out west who get in trouble for shooting a grizzly bear or wolf that is causing problems. If you even suspect that you might get in trouble, then you need to dump the thing as far aways as possible.

They don't get in trouble if the animal in question is causing problems. Most all of those that get in trouble are the ones that get caught dumping or covering up what they did.

Probably a bad idea.

Of course if someone is tracking/watching they may wonder why it is that cat or bearis traveling down a road at 45mph as well.

I don't know about Ohio, but here in Illinois, if the animal is not listed in the annual hunters digest,(Elk for example) and you happen to see an Elk while hunting, it's legal to harvest.

It was like that in Nebraska solocamcan until a guy shot one during the rifle deer season. That sparked a pretty good uprising. They are now listed there.

Actually, i have heard of some instances out west where people did get in trouble for shooting a bear or wolf that they felt was threatening themselves or their property. So, if push comes to shove it may be best to simply take care of business and leave the pencil pushers out of it.

That is exactly the way. Game wardens have more than one way to get you writtenup. We only see a minimum of laws overviewed when you buy a license OTC. They have a books full of laws to grab you with.
