RE: POLL: What would WISportsmen change?

I' ve never been wild about the point restriction idea for a number of reasons. As I said before, myself and my hunting buddies practice QDM, and have a rule of thumb that says the buck should have a spread at least to the outside of the ears. But that is us...I don' t expect everyone to have to follow that rule.

The point rule sounds great...for elk. Not so great for whitetails. First, it' s pretty hard to see exactly what the rack of a running deer looks like, at least to the point of counting points. In fact, I could see a whole lot of folks either missing or wounding deer under this rule. Second, it seems that the problem in some areas is too many deer. Put a point rule into effect and I' d bet we' d have fewer hunters in the woods. Finally, where do we draw the line? 3 points a side? 4? More? Again, I' m all for " Let ' em go so he can Grow" , but not all hunters are hunting horns.

Logs, I agree with you on the treestand issue. Can' t see a good reason to make you take them down. Heck, people leave campers at campsites, what' s wrong with treestands in trees? With regard to the buck/doe ratio, I believe if the DNR gave out one free tag per year, and did away with hunters choice, we' d have a better ratio across the state.

Sag, the non-resident license is too cheap. No question. At a time of supposed dire need for funds, an increase to place our licenses more in line with neighboring NR fees is a no-brainer. I' ve never had much sympathy for WI residents who complain about other states NR fees, so I sure as heck would have no sympathy for out-of-staters who would gripe about our fees.
