Il. Hunting late season?
 

Is late season bow hunting worth it at this time or the year? I mean with all of the pressure this fall is it going to be productive?

I think so. I hunt right up until last day of the season. I shot my one and only deer last year on Dec. 31. And just today I saw 2 bucks chasing around a doe. One of the bucks was pretty nice. A 3 1/2 year old 8 or 10 pointer.

I'm going out either tomorrow or this weekend for sure.

You are missing out on a lot of action if you don't hunt the late season. Find where the deer are feeding and set up there. The snow on the ground makes it a lot easier to find the hot spots.

HINT....hunt near a picked bean field!!!

My success usually picks back up around Christmas. If we have cold and snowy weather, deer are almost too easy to kill. They are slaves to their stomachs.

Next to the first 2-3 weeks of November the last 3 weeks of December is my favorite time to be out.

This being the first year I've hunted anything, what are some points of interest to look for/setup near besides a food source? Any tips w/ foliage down or tips at all?

I hunt public land in and around the Kankakee area and the hunting pressure is still there albeit significantly less.

The best around here is when the snow covers up all the acorns and they come to the food and food plots. Right now there is so many acorns that they just go where ever they want due to there being so much food...

When the snow falls, hunt white oak trees on crop field edges. These are magnets. Usually looks like hogs have been rooting around in snow under oak trees. Fair warning, you better be hunting high, there will be lots of leary eyes on the look out.

The day after all the months of bow and gun hunting in Illinois, i can usually jump several deer that are bedded down on my property. The numbers are on yuor side.
