Stupid Question?!?
 

Thought this was an easy one, but the WI DNR info line told me you could not hunt with a bow during rifle season, even with a gun license and the required hunters orange on...guy on the phone seemed "shaky" on it, I always thought you could.

What do you think?

According to the web site, archery is closed for gun season.

Yeah, I think in almost all states archery season does not run at the same time as gun, however, in most states you can legally use a bow as your weapon of choice during gun season, with a valid gun license, following the same blaze orange requirements for the firearm season. For example, in MI a convicted felon that can not legally own a gun can still hunt during gun season by using a bow. In that case archery season is closed, but with a valid gun license the person can still hunt during gun season legally...just not with a gun. They have to have the gun license and wear hunters orange but it's legal.

Thought that was the same in WI and I'd like to do that instead of using my gun....but the person at the ask WIDNR office this morning said you could not. Just have a hard time believing that and I guess I'll wait until tomorrow and contact an office for a CO during normal business hours for clarification...unless we have an WI DNR around here:)

Just speaking for Illinois, it is illegal to use a bow as a weapon duringgeneral "firearm"season, although it is legal to use a bow during "muzzleloader only" season as long as you're wearing the required blaze orange.

In Mn you can bow hunt durring gun season you just have to wear blaze orange...

It is illegal in Wi to use a bow during firearms season, unless you are hunting in the CWD zone...........all other zones close down bow season the day before the gun opener and it opens up the monday following the 9 day season.;)

YOU CAN NOT HUNT WITH A BOW DURING GUN SEASON AS THE ARCHEY SEASON IS CLOSED. ITS BEEN THIS WAY FOR YEARS.

Unless you hunt the CWD zone............the archery season does not close in the Eradication or herd reduction zones.;)

There are at least 2 public hunting areas in IL that have a designated archery-only area that is specifically open during the first 2 gun weekends, but those rules only apply to those specific sites, not private land or other pubic lands.

Lungbuster is correct... Most of Southern Wisc. is in a CWD zone... Bow hunting is allowed during gun deer season within the CWD zone.
Its getting to the point where we need a lawyer to understand all tghe laws in Wisconsin that change as you cross the street...
