theres a major problem with too many does and too many little deer, cause everyone wants a 180+ buck and passes up the rest. I think they should limit the number of out of state tags into illinois like iowa and gear it back towards lowering the number instead of shoot 1 monster buck.
I shoot at least 1 doe per year.....no 180 class bucks yet.

This helps explain why I found 2 dead bucks and a dead doe at our Perry County hunting property. Three - four more were "smelled" but not located. Over the weekend, I heard of a farmer finding 15 dead deer in a corn field outside Nashville, IL. It was said that four were of 150 class.

It's a shame to have this happen. Just pray for a quick frost.

I'm in KY and we have been hit hard with this disease as well. We have found 2 so far and I have smelled several more. We went from having 300+ pics in a 3-4 day period on our trail cams to 3-9 pics in the same time frame. We know people that have found upwards of 30 deer on their farms. This disease makes it hard for us hunters. We had a lot of really nice bucks until this hit and now there are no deer at all. They say that it isn't harmful to humans, but I won't be eating any of the meat. The infected deer usually die within 72 hours after contracting the virus. State officials here are wanting to test a live deer to determine the differences between EHD and Bluetongue, but catching one before it dies is nearly impossible.

The odds of someone shooting a 180" class buck is like hitting the Mega Millions, yes we have big deer here in IL as well as in Iowa, Kansas. But we are not crawling with B&C deer like MOST out of staters think.
Well I don't think NRs come here to shoot does. They pay $$$ to come here with the hopes of getting the big one they are after.

The guys down by us come up from Alabama and lease a nice parcel. They're a good bunch of guys. But they want big bucks, plain and simple.
I'm not really into their business, but I don't think I've seen any does bleedin' over there.

They are after BIG deer and IMO the ones they let pass are certainly welcome in my sights.

Well, if disease cuts the deer population in half, I don't think you will be seeing nearly as many non-residents (and residents for that matter) in a rush to shell out big bucks for buying or leasing land.

I haven't heard anything from Richland county yet, so maybe it hasn't hit there.

Hey all,

We all have to do our part to manage the herds inour respectivehunting areas because believe it our not, they are all connected in one way or another. We have to look at it as the deer on my property also roam onyour properties and vice versa. The circumstances we are all dealing with during this drought is mother natures way of managing the way she knows how. We all hate the possibility of losing great bucks to disease but this is the way it is for now. I have heard stories of dead deer found in surrounding areas of the property that I hunt but I am still looking forward to this deer season as much as ever. I take does if I can every year and some years have only had the opportunity to only shoot does. I still have the best times of my life every season out in the woods. Keep your heads up guys and we will get through it. Show your pride as bowhunters whenever you can.

Good luck to all of you this season,

We're also finding several dead Deer here in Missouri so the problem is hitting several Midwest states and it will definetly impact the quality of hunting this year! :(

EHD(the disease mentioned) hit here in 2005. Deer harvests were still about average. West central Illinois gets hit about every other year. I've seen it hit Mason, Menard and Cass county hard. There is always deer there still. But... it is a shame that it takes the old ones as well as the young. Thats nature
