Goose season cut short?

Can someone explain to me why they cut goose season in the central zone in Illinois short by 4 days? I called earlier this week and we were about 2100 birds under our quota and the next day when i called i didnt get a number just that it was closing on thursday. Could we have gotten that many birds in such a short time or is someone playing the numbers game?

RE: Goose season cut short?

Two days ago you could have drove past any golf course, park or cut corn field in southern WI and found 50 to 500 geese at any one stop. There are till 1000's here after the 4 inches of snow. The mild weather has not pushed them far enough south. I like geese at the table and in the field but around here they are referred to as flying rats. They are destroying the golf courses, crapping all over the parks to the point you can't walk or play with your children with out being covered with goose droppings.
The State or County is going to net trap some 20,000 or more and turn them into gooseburger for the food shelters.
Pray for a early winter next year and you'll get to see your geese.
