Nebraska
Anyone here have any good information on Nebraska public land? I have hunted IL, OH and IA and was thinking about Nebraska.
IL - Missed the draw this year and I wasn't all that impressed with Shawnee OH- Used to be good.. too many big non typicals and way too popular now. IA-Can't wait to get back NE- Over the counter tags- in between KS and IA, has to be good. any help would be nice. Just looking for ideas for the this fall. |
RE: Nebraska
I am out in far west nebraska where the public land doesn't get hit hard in archery season. There are not alot of public lands in Nebraska but there are some. There are some great deer in Nebraska as well. Look at the NGPC website and they have a map server that lists the WMA's and the other public lands by county or an interactive map of the state.
I hunt along the North Plate river around the entrance into lake McConaughy. I have seen many great deer and found some unbelievable sheds but just have not had the chance to arrow one. If you are going to rifle hunt I would not come to Nebraska as the public land gets hammered during rifle season. If so go durng the middle of the week. |
RE: Nebraska
I'm from southeast nebraska and while there isn't much public land around, there is some at rock creek station near fairbury which is close to the kansas border and west of beatrice on a map.

RE: Nebraska
Here is a link to some of the hunting areas.http://www.ngpc.state.ne.us/wildlife/places/wmas.asp http://www.trailsandgrasslands.org/oglala.htmlI used to live in North Central Neb. and there are some very good public hunting areas in the North Central to NW part of the state. I have hunted in the Oglala National Grasslands for both Mule deer and Antelope and had a great time. Antelope season starts in August and deeron September 15, so you can hunt both at the same time. You have to go to the very NW part of the state to get into good antelope hunting (about a two or three miles from SD and Wy.)
That is my 2 cents |
RE: Nebraska
Go to the NE Game and parks site at look around some. They have a page where you can look up all the WMA with photo's. It's really cool! I wouln't say the only place good for goats is the National Grasslands, but its where most go just because it's public. Like Wheatley said, during rifle season you will see lots of hunters on the public lands. Also might take a look at the CRP map the game and parks puts out.
Good luck! |
