Armadillo

When the hell did armadillo become so prevalent in Missouri? Good lord growing up here I didn't know what an armadillo was. Now they are all over the place and dead on the road sides. Anyone else noticing this?

I'm just wondering what impact this will have on the native species here. There is one dead along the road about 100 yards from the house in fact. I know they are relatives of the anteater so they can eat all the ants they want and that will not bother me at all. From what I gather it's the nine banded armadillo species which is increasing and moving northward from Texas and the southwest. I wonder if anyone is doing a study on it...

I know what you mean, theyre everywhere. It seems there are more dillos than possums around here now. I went to a game banquet and someone asked the game warden about them, and he urged everyone to shoot them, he said they were becoming a nuisance and are very devastating to farm land. I know they are really digging up my food plots. They sure arent very bright critters either, dumber than possums.lol

They are showing up in southern Illinois too. The things are a pain in the butt in terms of always burrowing holes like groundhogs on methamphetamine. They can also wreak havoc with a yard and garden. The things can also carry leprosy, but human rarely if ever catch it from them. Decent eating, though..
