I'd say even sooner. But that's just because most people are pretty ignorant bout wolves and their behavoir.

I will deffinately say I wish I was in a warmer area right now lol. Its in the teens where I am at right now, my girlfriend said where she is at its in the single digits.

cool, sounds like a good time. I plan on starting my scouting for next season tomorrow hopefully. (praying to the whitetail gods). I'm not supposed to have class on thursday or friday, so if thats true, I'm leaving right after class tomorrow and going home. I figure I can be home by around 2:30-3:00, so that gives me plenty of time to check out a spot or two.

Whats your favorite way of catching snapping turtles? I like reeling them in,but shooting them with a fishing arrow is less like fishing and more like hunting.

I'venever TRIED to catcha snapper, though I have anyhow on several occasions, all by hook line and sinker. I've never tried turtle soup either, I hear it's supposed to be pretty strong and tasty

If you get all the fat off the meat, and treat it just like pork, you can be eating good all summer. Most people dont want to try it so there are pleanty of turtles out there. We have to utilise all the carp we shoot so i tie up baitpiles to stumps just before dark and come back at first light to take my pick with my bow.

Bloodbro 02-01-2007 07:21 PM

We used to eat em when I was a kid. They were good, but not worth all the work cleaning them.

Well, I got my rifles back from the gunsmith, so here is what will be killing deer next november. This is a '91 Mauser Argentine chambered in 7.65mm. I have a new stock picked out; you can't really tell from the pics, but it's in pretty rough shape and the finish is horrible. I'll post up a pic or two and see what you guys think about the one I want.

And here is a pic of the stock I'm thinking about getting. Less than $100 for the stock (not including shipping, and extras like sling mounts, but pad, etc.)

RE: WI Hunters!

I finally got out and was able to do a little scouting. I didn't see any deer, but I did see where they have been hanging out at. Lucky for me nothing has changed since the fall as far as their patterns go. They're using the same bedding area, the same routes to and from the bedding area to the water and food. I'm pretty positive right now for next year. There is a couple other places that I want to look at, but I just have to find the time. How is everyone else's scouting goin?

Thats really cool! I've heard rumors about some Elk being in Northern WI for years. I've never seen one here though. I recognize the name Clam Lake, but I have no idea where it is, what county/area of the state is it....I think I may have fished at a place called Clam Lake once...

You should try to get some pictures of the Elk sometime! Start bringing the camera with you, and batteries! God only knows why the batteries always fail when we need them the most!

Is anyone finding any good sheds??? I have been out a few times, but didnt find anything. How about any new toys for the upcoming season? Anyone got a new gun or bow they're looking forward to getting out and shooting?

hey burbaust99..i haven't been home in over a week now but my dad found a set of sheds a couple weeks ago that gross scored 160 6/8 behind our house!! they're huge..he found the set about 100 yards from where i found a set from the same deer 2 years ago!! it was pretty cool

Austin/WI 02-28-2007 01:56 PM

RE: WI Hunters!

wow, that is cool. I haven't found any sheds yet (I've only been out twice though lol). I plan on looking a little bit during spring break though. I think it would be really cool to keep finding sheds from the same deer. If you eventaully take him you could have one really cool mount showing the sheds from the previous years.

I picked up a bowtech tribute in January. Can't wait for the season to come, have her prove her worth. Hopefully, plan on getting a lazer rangefinder & blind later this year. Maybe, I'll find those @ the Deer Turkey Expo in Madison in a couple of weeks.

Austin/WI 03-02-2007 02:27 PM

RE: WI Hunters!

How do you like the tribute? I want to get a rangefinder as well. Too darn expensive though. When is the Expo again? End of March beginning of April?
