Take him or Leave him?
I found a few ground scrapes along food plot and put trail cam up. I got a glimpse of this big guy. Take him or leave him. I was told he would go at least 150+....
|
RE: Take him or Leave him?
He's nowhere near 150", but a good representation of a mature midwest buck...take him if you can.
|
RE: Take him or Leave him?
He does look to be mature but I wouldn't call him 150", so taking him depends on what your after.
|
RE: Take him or Leave him?
You can leave him if you want, for some one else!!:)
|
RE: Take him or Leave him?
That is a beautiful buck, and I would take him if given the chance. That buck may push 135, but he is lacking alot of mass. Beautiful deer.
|
RE: Take him or Leave him?
yea hes around 130s if the other side looks the same and as some spread I would guess him to be around a 3 1/2 maybe 4 1/2 he doesnt seem to have the belly and the look of aolder buck around my area
It all depends on how he matches your area and what you are seeing if this will be you biggest buck and you are not seeing huge buck while on stand |
RE: Take him or Leave him?
It would be to kind of you to leave him for me. I like him.
|
RE: Take him or Leave him?
Let him go another year.
|
RE: Take him or Leave him?
Very tough call. That looks like it will be a VERY nice deer next season...if he lives that long.
|
RE: Take him or Leave him?
2-1/2 right now, about 130/135 IMO. Next year @ 3-1/2 I would guess him to go something like 160 and be a thicker deer.
Question to your question. Did you see him last season? (If you think so - are you really sure?) But if you didn't see him last season, do you think he's gonna hang around to be critiqued next year? Or will he even be around next week? Will he be hit by a car? Always so much question. And when that deer comes by our stands or blinds there's only a limited time window and shot opportunity. Questions that usuallyneed more time tom ponder than allowed at the moment. Oh what to do?!?!?! The friggin story of our lives! So much to do and not enough time to do it in! If I do this - what will happen?! If I do that - will it work? If I do nothing - is it the right thing? It's like asking her to marry me all over again! ( huh? did I say something? ) So much to contemplate! So much to evaluate!Should I put him on the plate? Pretty good deerIMO -good enough for Uncleto squeeze a trigger on. |
RE: Take him or Leave him?
Leave him. He is not a 150" deer. Like everyone else is telling you he is a young deer. This guy has potential. What's your hunting pressure like on neighboring properties? Will this deer please you? If this is the deer you want then take him. If you want a chance at a Booner then let him walk 2 more years. IN THE END DO WHAT MAKES YOU HAPPY!
|
RE: Take him or Leave him?
take him he is a good buck
|
RE: Take him or Leave him?
I agree, not quite 150, 135-140 IMO! Take him or leave him would depend on what else ya got running around. Is thisa monster for your area? If you know there are bigger deer, and you got plenty of time to hunt, then ya might concider leaving him.
But you know what they say, if you'd shoot him on the last day, probably better shoot him when ya get the chance! |
RE: Take him or Leave him?
this is a nice buck for our area but there is bigger one's from what i have heard. we've have just started working some food plots this year and hopefully it will attract more. neighboring landowners on one side are letting the big one's walk with hope that they make it the next year. with the exception of the youth's that hunt are allowed to take a buck for there first kill if one walks up of any size. so i'm sure with a little more work on the food plots and a good harvest on some does, and with some luck we'll have bigger ones as this one i have posted. Good Luck to all this hunting season and be safe.......

RE: Take him or Leave him?
If you like him, take him. If he was on my land, Id pass on him.....but I ususally let the hunt dictate that. Last year I shot a 155in deer that chased does made a rub, and a scrape and I grunted him in......if he was 130in deer that did all of that... I still would have shot him.
|
RE: Take him or Leave him?
I would say he would score around 130 or so.
I would definately take him too! |
RE: Take him or Leave him?
As others have said, 125 - 130'ish. Taking him all depends on how effective you can manage the land. Sounds like the neighbors are willing to help out in growing bigger deer. If that is truly the case, I'd pass to let him mature into a bigger deer. If he walked under my tree where I'm currently hunting, he'd be down - based on not being able to manage the land (too small of an area with moderate hunting pressure from neighboring land - the kind of pressure that would not let this guy walk).
|
RE: Take him or Leave him?
I'd probably take him if he walked by me.
|
RE: Take him or Leave him?
Ya he looks like about 135" IMO but you cant be sure unless you get him personally i would take him hunless you are absolutly positivly sure you saw him last year then maybe just maybe pass him up but I cant say i would :DGOOD LUCK BROTHER

RE: Take him or Leave him?
Looks to be a 9pointer??????
|
RE: Take him or Leave him?
If you're after a 150" buck you should wait another year on that one. He's not there yet.
|
RE: Take him or Leave him?
Evening folks
Hunted this weekend for our openingrifle season and didn't see this guy but talked neighboring hunters and they said that they did see alot of nice bucks out there. My nephew passed on 2 nice bucks he said he they good size but passed on them. MY HAT off to him. I got a nice Doe sunday morning with my bonus tag and told my boy(10) that there's still some nice bucks out for him. It would be his first buck kill. Good luck to all and safe hunting...... |
RE: Take him or Leave him?
That's a great deer. Probably a 2 1/2 year old 130 class. I would take him but I'm a newbie. It's up to your discretion. Good luck!
|
RE: Take him or Leave him?
150" I don't think so!! No matter I wouldn't let him pass if he was in front of me. Nice looking buck.
|
RE: Take him or Leave him?
I have heard through the grape vine that my brother-in-laws dad had taken this buck on Saturday morning of opening season. I'm going to get in touch with him and show him the picture that I have. If this is the one I'll post the green score of this deer. It it turns out this guy was a 9pt'er with a 15 1/2'' or 16'' spread. He is getting it mounted. Let you all know as soon as I here something. Safe Hunting......
