Doesn't surprise me that Jefferson (my home county) is in the top 5.....no comment . Now I'm stuck way the hell up here in Henry county (near Peoria) but I am going home this weekend and hopefully I'll be able to take vacation the full or half of the 2nd week in Nov.

According to a magazine article that I read last year, Pike was #1 for both P&Y and B&C. The counties that I hunt in, Lake and McHenry, were #2 and #3 for P&Y. McHenry was also #3 for B&C. Quality, not quantity.

I hate those lists. If you live in those counties listed, and that top 10 list comes out in a magazine, there is a rush of people trying to move in on ya.(had to get that out of my system).

good list, but There are some really small counties that don't get counted that produce good ones every year.

im glad i aint on that list, cause it is just like someone else said, out-a-staters sea that, and then they decide that they want to come here to hunt the first place they will look to go, is one of those counties and that lists.

Also if u dont have a lot of deer harvested in a particular county it could mean the chances of a buck living long, and getting to be big big buck:):D

Good Lucky

Not me. I hunt in Will County. I'm thinking development is taking much of the hunting land here though. The current P&Y/B&C map put out by QDMA lists Will as the 5th best county in the state 1991-2000. However, I've not seen it appear anywhere in the last 6 years.

Oh well. Still better than Indiana.

Isn't Will in or near the CWD containment area? If so that could be why.

One thing to think about is these figures are gun season figures. Im sure next year with our new call in system there will be much better information with Archery and Gun. They are starting to get some much better information out there for those that want to look.

No - these figures are for all harvest, archery and all firearms combined.

Matt, a little off topic here, but is Hoss your son??
I thought I read that once upon a time, and Hoss is on my Firearms team for the contest. Just wondering.

Ok I thought these figures where just for firearm. Im wondering though how they figure success rates? Our archery tags are good for the whole state so how can they figure what county is more successful than the other with those tags? I hunt 3 or 4 different counties and they dont know that except for where I harvested the deer.

Hoss is my son. If something comes along that he wants to take, he certainly has the marksmanship to anchor it.

(Of course he's still just a shadow of his old man!);)

Don, you do report your harvest right?

Don K 10-22-2006 07:39 AM

RE: Alright you Illinois boys......

Yes I report my harvest.

But what does that mean to the bowhunters?

What im looking at is lets say "X" county harvested 10,000 deer. How do you know the success rates to that county? Sure I shot a deer in that county and called it in but how do they know how many people are bowhunting in that county to get the "success rates"?? There could be 10,500 people, 6 million people, how do they know that????The people that bowhunt in "X" county do not have to report anything with there archery tag unless they harvest a deer. The gun tags are issued county wide so success information is easily figured out. With archery I dont see how they can figure the success. The total harvest sure.

Funny thing, althogh I hunt Greene, I have to laugh that Jersey didn't make it. Its bodered by Greene, Calhoun, and Macoupin. I also have to agree with a previous reply, that as soon as the word gets out people flock to that area, just look at Pike. Not speaking badly of them at all but when the big one was killed there a while back, ever since it is a nightmare.

I'm glad Macon County isn't listed. It keeps those Georgia boys on the other side of the state.:D
