Illinois Deer Pins
Well i went to order a archery pin because i shot a doe yesturday and some of you might remember that last year you just filled out a little bit of info and they sent them to you. Well now im reading that you have to go pick one up if you want it at the Illinois Department of Natural Resources! looks like im not getting any pins this year....im not driving all that way just for a pin.

Yeah, I saw that too. I have the location of the nearest office printed out on my desk. I might stop in when I'm in the neighborhood, but I don't think I'll be making a special trip.

RE: Illinois Deer Pins
So typical. Ever since Uncle Rod took the reins, Generations of great hunting traditions have bit the dust. (Things like over the counter hunting permits in time for spring turkey season, state duck stamps, and out of state family actually being able to afford to hunt the family farm without ebaying one of their kids in order to buy a permit just to name a few)

Thanks |
RE: Illinois Deer Pins
i got my first this morning and was dismayed at the sight of having to go to the office to pick up pins . i was pleasantly surprised when i took the deer to the locker and they have a supply of archery and shotgun pins

RE: Illinois Deer Pins
Although I understand some think they are cool, I for one could care less about a pin. I am more concerned with the new cheap tags that we have to supply our own fasteners for and the fact Illinois did away with the check stations last season. I am so disappointed in the way the system is run these days.

RE: Illinois Deer Pins
Talked with the local shop tehat sells deer permits. He told me hes getting a box of pins to distribute to hunters. Hes been told most of all the old check stations can get these to hand out. Hunters then call in to get your confirmation number for your tag and then you show the shop that number and you get your deer pin. They are trying to save on postage and still be able to get them to the hunters. Last year they mailed the pins out one at a time in seperate envelopes. You shot 2 deer they mailed two pins in two envelopes.
Im sure they will change the system again next year. And im with Cougar these new tags suck. Yes I like the computer system but these tags are not going to last. I wonder how many will be ripped off the animal before they make it out of the woods. Good idea, but these things need to be improved. Don |
RE: Illinois Deer Pins
Cougar Mag brought up an interesting point that I've thought about quitea bit. What do you think, with the absence of Check stations, has poaching increased?
ShawneeSlinger |
RE: Illinois Deer Pins
I would say that there probably is an increase. The way the systm works now, there are many ways unethicial hunters can take a deer and never contact the state's automated system.

RE: Illinois Deer Pins
If you define poaching as breaking ANY law, then I say yes, I'm sure that there are deer being shot, tagged, taken home, and processed without reporting it. Some guys would see it that as long as the (correct)tag is used only once, no foul.
If you are talking about shooting deer at night from roads, and just taking them home, I say that there is no noticeable increase. Check stations never did anything to prevent that anyway, the risk is the same. |
RE: Illinois Deer Pins
When you guys are talking about losing the tag, is it because you think the tag will tear or the string will come off?
Don't quite a few other states have these same 'provide your own fastener' tie on type tags? (WI comes to mind) They kill a lot more deer up in WI. I'd hate to think it works for them because the Cheeseheads know how to bring a piece of string and tie a better knot than us FIB's. ;) |

Christine, I do love your avatar! Right on!

RE: Illinois Deer Pins
That is the best avatar yet Christine. Hes ruined lots for us hunters.

RE: Illinois Deer Pins
BAH, I hate these new ways, I want the ol check stations!

RE: Illinois Deer Pins
I sent em a complaint. This state is going to hell.
Deer Pins I don't know who this needs to go to, there is no complaint department listed.I understand this year we have to go to a regional headquarters to get out deer pins. Should we bill the state for our gas milage? This is a blatant attempt to stop giving them out to successful hunters. Last year they do away with check stations, but never fear we'll mail them. This year we have to go to a regional HQ. Next year we'll hear how few hunters wanted them and they are discontinuing them. I guess the DNR is to lazy to send them to the local offices and too cheap to mail them. Next year I guess I'll be too cheap to buy permits and won't hunt. I checked Mapquest for the distances.Alton - 94.34 miles Springfield - 76.40 miles Benton - 211.88 miles Clinton - 132.65 miles Bartlett - 280.60 miles Sterling - 192.49 miles |
RE: Illinois Deer Pins
Wheres our hunting dollars going? Cheap Bastards!
|
RE: Illinois Deer Pins
In regards to the tags I was wondering too how many tags will get blown or ripped off driving down the highway after a successful hunt. Can't you see it now you just left your hunting spot driving home, you get pulled over by the cop for who knows what a behold your damn tag has also blown off so now you have a dead deer in your truck not even tagged.

RE: Illinois Deer Pins
I sent the following email to the Illinois DNR, Accompanied is their reply to me
"I was shocked to find that this year deer harvest pins are not being mailed out. I find it odd that in order to get one we have to drive somewhere to get one. Is there any way that this will be changed or that we will be able to get pins somewhere else such as local hunting stores? Just a question from a concerned hunter. I know on some of the hunting web forums out there this is really being talked up a lot and there are a lot of unhappy hunters across the state of Illinois. Thanks" Here is the reply I recieved today from the IL DNR "Thank you for your concerns and please spread the word that we are doing the following. For the harvest pins, the locations listed on our website are currently the only locations with pins. We are in the process of distributing the pins to the DNR Direct vendors that choose to be a distribution center. It will be a few weeks before they are available and we will post the vendors to our website http://dnr.state.il.us/deer_pins . Please be patient. Thanks Deb" Thought you all would appreciate this update. Hopefully things get turned around. If enough voices are heard things can get changed |
RE: Illinois Deer Pins
So I walked into the Region 2 office in Bartlett at 1:30 this afternoon and was greeted by a sign on the receptionist's desk that says."No receptionist on duty". Of course there is no sign telling you what to do.
After a few minutes of standing around I finally walked through to the office area and guess what I found? Nothing! Not a sole in sight. So I go back to the reception desk and I notice a sign flipped over on the desk that reads,"So and So is the receptionist, go to the second windowed cubicle on the left". So, I go around to the left and So and So is not at her desk. I go back to the front again and this time I called their phone # and punched "O" to get ahold of someone. A woman answers and I tell her I am at the front desk. She comes out and to her credit was very nice and she knew without asking that I was there to get a deer pin. She reached under the desk and asked me how many I wanted. Being a mostly honest guy I only took one. The woman did let me know that no one in the DNR is happy with Blago, I let her know that the Outdoosman of Illinois are going to do everything that we can to can that piece of crap. Just thought I would share this with the group. Good Hunting, Bowflex |

RE: Illinois Deer Pins
Well so far this has all been regarding archery pins, right?
What is going to be the protocall when shotgun (firearms) season takes place? And yes GOV. BLOWGO is a thieving jerk ("reappropriated" over 61 million dollars from DNR to other things he deemed more needy). I hope now that his right hand man, Tony Resko, has been indicited and is a fugitive from justice it will break his campaign. 2 crooks. I'd like to see some Beechnut in that Gov's eye! |
RE: Illinois Deer Pins
my processor has both archery and shotgun pins at their store

Whole list of vendors on line (13 pages) of everyone that has pins on site to hand out.

RE: Illinois Deer Pins
I also sent a letter and got no response what so ever, but that could have been due to the fact that I made a pretty bad statement of our democratic run state out of chicago. My bad I guess. But I did basically say I would rather pay 5-15 bucks to order one rather than spend 35 bucks in gas to get one.
Well,I guess there is one within 30 miles now. It is actually the last check station location we had. Alot of the places on the list that were some what close to me look like old check stations. Glad they did something for us, but they prolly only sent a few to each place and they will run out. Are they requesting tag numbers when you go to get them I hope? |
