This years archery tags are small enough to fit in your wallet. How in theheck do you attach them to a good size deer with out loosing them?

They always have to change things in this state[:@]That's a good question freezermeat.I think I'll get mine this weekend.We might have to take some clear gift wrap tape into the field with ya this year :D

Got mine yesterday, and I agree, its an odd size. I'm bringing along some zip ties, just in case.

yeah i agree...i dont know how I am gonna get it to fit...maybe some string ,wire, or zip ties

If it is like MI with the electronic ones, they have sticky backs on the them. What I do is put a piece of string down the middle and fold the tag over onto itself so it is stuck together around the string, then tie it to the deer. I haven't seen the IL ones yet though, as I haven't goten mine yet either, so hpefully it is similar because in MI, it works real nice.

The new permits have holes that you canpush a wire wrap or plastic strap through. They are totally different than prior years.

I bought mine tonight and I'm sure I had a funny look on my face when I received them. I like how they are smaller when folded but I'm sure there will be lots of confusion when people start to actually use the tags.

you are actually supposed to zip tie ot tie them on the deer i agree with how STUPID they are getting and as soon as every1 is content with this program they will vhange it again

Well, I must be a little different than everybody. I for one welcome this change. I haven't liked those old tags since day one. They were way too big and would not fit in my wallet.

If the new Illinois system is anything like the Colorado one was the last time I was out there, that will be great.

IBM- Not saying anything is wrong with them, just noting that you will need some sort of tie to attach to your deer. I like the them and the purchasing process is all computerized.

Freezermeat, the tags are just now new in Michigan? Minnesota has had that type for a few years now.

Yes I like the fact that now I can carry my license and tags in my license holder. I just have to make sure I have put a section of string in my pocket. I guess if all fails I can be like McGyver and use my shoe string.

wel i dont like them just cause of the tieing them on thats just one MORE thing for me to forget if i dont have enough already i love them computerized part it just takes for ever to get them and if you just deer hunt no biggy but i duck goose hunt and if you dont buy everything at once thme you have a thuosand pieces of paper and i think after a feew years they will have the bugs worked out

When they handed them to me I thought that he printed out too many and about said so until I got to looking at them. I guess I'll just have to carry some zip ties with me this year. Should be easy enough as long as I attach the right one.

I dont mind the new tags.
This is how I started carrying my license and tags a few years ago and was great for the old style license to keep from getting it wet.
I have a lifetime license now and it also fits perfectly in it.

Might have a turkey permit in there as well. I just packaged these up with my gun tags and put them in a sealed platic bag that I will put in my backpack.

I bought mine today at Wal-Mart. My license and 2 combo tags made my printout 31 1/2" long. Quite an accordian.

Not much of a hunting department at the Calumet City store. They had four orange hats, four pair of camo gloves, two camo jackets and one ladder stand. That is it! For real. Critter huntin ain't so popular in the hood.

The gal at the counter asked if I was the one who called in with the tag question 4 hours earlier. It seems I was the only one who bought a license or tag there today. 3 days before season there are lines of guys buying tags at the Indiana Wal-Marts.

It would be nice if these had sticky backs to stick on. Zip ties, string or whatever you use you better keep a good eye on that tag when you drag your deer out. I hunted Wisconsin for many years when we used to have to tie them tags on and it really sucks when you get to the road and the tag is tore off from dragging it.

Hey Don,

You would have got a real kick out of that Cal City Wal-Mart hunting display. I bet I bought the only hunting tags there in the last fullmonth. Not manydeer in the hood.

got my first deer of the season this morning and was surprised how well that tag went on. i always expose the tendon and put the tag on around the tendon with the open side away from me slipped a zip tie through and nice tight fit. i like it better than the old type of tags

I gotta admit,the tag wasn't as bad as I thought it would be,I just don't like the call in system.One more thing to note folks, and this could be an important one,the leg tag has a spot designated for you to write the conformation check in number on it,anyway after you shoot your deer,get it field dressed ,and put the leg tag on(as you are supposed to)and don't have a cellphone to check your deer in with , you could technicaly be breaking the law.I don't think that one was well thought out.The new tags are not bad ,but I wish that they still had the check in stations,it was a good place to look at other deer ,and have a bit of fellowship with other hunters.

Well thats encouraging that they arent too bad. I havent had a chance to use mine yet.

Also you have till 10:00 pm to call you deer in so if you dont have a cell phone you can get to a phone and do it from there.

Am I the only one who is glad to see the new waterprooftags??? Ohio has had these for several years now (after trial and error: the sticky tape strips were alwfull!!) Ohio requires an attached string BEFORE hunting... SIMPLE SOLUTION: Tie 20" of dental floss to each tag hole, fold tags, wrap floss around the bunch and shove in wallet and you're legal... I have two Illinois and two Ohio tags EASILY in my wallet!!!! I carry plastic zip strips in my pack, but have had buddy use the dental floss at 55mph in truck-bed for ten miles to town before getting metal state tag. Also beats buying a new boot lace......P.S. in Ohio don't buy tags on internet, printer paper not waterproof!! Good luck, good hunting, let the small one's grow!
