Iowa nonres landowner

Can a nonresident landowner in Iowa get a buck tag every year (landowner tag possibly) or do you have to go in the lottery like all other nonres? And if the lottery is the only way, how good are the odds?

No, nonres landowners do not get a tag every year. They need to apply for a lotto where your odds are less than 50/50 (if I remember correctly).

Yea, I did some poking around on the DNR website. Apparently nonres landowners go in the lottery like everyone else. If you don't draw you get better odds at an antlerless only tag. If you don't draw the buck tag do you get a preference point for the following year?

Yes, you get a point if you don't get drawn for a tag.
