Il ammunition rules
 

I am 17 years old and I have a foid card and I was wondering if I can buy shotgun ammunation legally in the sate of Il casue someone ytold me you could just you cant buy a long gun till ur 18 and handgun till ur 21 but what about ammo?

I have always heard that residents could buy shotgun ammo when under 18 but had to be over to buy rifle or handgun ammo. i was looking up the law and the law states that any illinois resident with a foid card can buy any ammo , it further states that non residents must be over 18 to buy ammo

As long as you can provide a FOID Card you should be able to buy whatever. I used to buy shotgun and rifle loads when I was 16. But than again, that doesn't necisarily mean that it is legal. Some people just don't care who they sell it to.

Even if it were legal, I seriously doubt you willfind any place that is willing to sell it to you.

The Brady Bunch give Illinois an A- rating on gun laws. That should give you an idea of how much it sucks.LOL

I'm not to sure if it is actualLAW or just most retailers policy, but I think you got to be 18 for long gun ammo and 21 for handgun ammo.

the way the law is written it appears that the retailers are using their own rules ,

If you are 18, but under 21, you can get an FOID card if your parent or legal guardian "co-signs" for you & you can only purchase long gun and long gun ammo til 21, no matter what. You cannot possess a handgun either unti 21, unless accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who is or over.

You can buy shotgun shells but no rifle or pistol ammo.....
