RE: MONSTER SHED!!!!!!!!
I was out yesterday scoping some deer. Out of say, maybe 30 deer, a few still had one of their spikes, but most had completely shed. Then I see a very large deer way off and I crouched down and glassed him for a few minutes. When he showed his headhe had a nice big thick full rack, typical 10 point.
I was left to wonder why this old boy still had his head gear, I would figure that big, heavy & bulky rack would have dropped by now. One thing I did notice is that the group of deer I was watching, they were really skittish. Jumping around and chasing each other here and there. I saw a deer a few weeks ago that seemed like it had gotten into a giant bag of cat-nip. That thing was WIRED! |
RE: MONSTER SHED!!!!!!!!
Matt, I had the same question a wrok the other day anda guy at work who seems to have good answers told me that the bigger bucks breed longer into the year than small ones do ( dominance, more second rut activity than the little guys) so he said the big ones have moretestosterone (sorry my spelling sucks) in the system longer and that is why the big guys keep the gear longer. He said when the testosterone drops off that is whattrigers sheding. Makes sense but not saying he is right.
