Southwest Kansas Buck
I posted this in the Bowhunting Forum, but then thought that maybe it should be posted here.
Hello. I’m new to the board. Just joined today, in fact. I wanted to show off the whitetail buck that I got this weekend in southwest Kansas. I was hunting a shelterbelt near a creek and it had plenty of activity. The buck came in just before dark to his scrape, which was just east of my tree stand. I had to wait for him to clear some tree branches before I could shoot. I took him at 16 yards. He spun around and ran out into a CRP field. It is extremely difficult to find a blood trail in CRP, as some of you may be aware of, and it was getting dark. I had to come back the next morning. Unfortunately, the coyotes found him before I did. They had eaten both back hams. I was able to salvage the front quarters, most of the backstraps, and of course, the rack. I wasn’t sure just how good he was until I found him the next day. I roughed scored him around 150. He’s got some deductions as both brow tines are broken, the main beam on the right side is broken, and the G2 on the right side is broken. But hey, who’s counting! This is actually the second best whitetail I’ve taken with a bow. The best scored around 180 and I took him 10 years ago. It’s been a long wait for another good buck, but well worth it. ![]() |
RE: Southwest Kansas Buck
Great looking buck! All those broken tines....well chalk that up to him being a fighter, in which you should be even more proud of!!
