Default Cat-like creature? or just Coytoe?

Journal Standard article
In the above article local farmers have reported seeing a cat like creature that more resembles an African Lion than a cougar or mountain lion. DNR officials have been to the site and the tracks they studied were coyote tracks. So, the question is, do we have lions, tigers, or bears? Oh my, we may never know....... yeah I know that was bad.

I lived in MO. I found lion tracks and bear tracks. When talking to fish and game they treated my like I was dumb.

Well gess what. Now just a few years latter there has ben moutain lions ran over by cars just south of where I found tracks. There has allso been bear sightings with PICS. just north and south of where I found the tracks.

I gess in some caces the hunter knows more that the fish and game.

Depending on what part of the state you're in, my dad would probably believe you! He was in SE Kansas tip not too long ago and saw a mountain lion and told a few people and they all thought he was crazy. Well, he back to the same area to one of his dealer's (he's a salesman, not a drug dealer! LOL) and there were others that had seen cat tracks and actual sightings of mountain lions.

Which part of MO are you from?

over in perry IL where i hunt. some farmers have been saying they have seen a large black cat. they say there used to bea black panther yrs ago and now 10-15 yrs later they are seeing it again. i just hope it isn't in my tree when i go to climb up in my tree stand.

one of my moms best friend was driving over on RT. J by mark twain lake and saw a couger standing in the middle of the road. so she called DNRto come and get it. thats all i know about it so far. i'm not sure if she heard more about it or not.

There have actually been some cougar sightings in north central and north eastern Kansas as well. The landi hunt in NC Kansas has had some farmers complaining of cows being dragged under trees where they have been eaten by an unknown creature. Many guess that it is this same mountain lion people have seen. Nothing else has the power to drag multiple cows under a tree to devour them. It would be a treat to personally see one here in Kansas.

To tell you the truth, probably 95%+ of mountain lion sitings in Kansas, aren't really mountain lions. Sure there are some in Kansas, but i'm guessing out of all the sitings, you figure 1/2 of the people out there don't know the difference between a bobcat and lion, the rest of the 1/2 only see it for a second or 2, and the rest mistaken it for a bobcat, a dog or who knows what.

My cousin(a Warden for KDWP) once took a test with all the other nearbyofficers on indentification of wild cats. They watched 3-4 videos' along with pictures. Everyone of them swore they were mountain lions, when in reality, they were big cats in awkward positions. Just think, a room full of trained wildlife specialists were wrong after watching a home video, how would most people know for sure, during that 1-2 second siting that happens maybe once in there lives, that it really was a lion?

I'll be the 1st to admit to seeing a mountain lion. I saw the large cat tracks next to my house, and it wasn't for sure if it was a huge bobcat or lion. But 2 weeks later I saw it on the road, running for about 5 seconds, seeing the large tail which was 2-3 feet long. Damm near hit it with the truck. They're out there, but are very very few of them. The KDWP knows they're some out there too...
