Obituary for Richard Henry Murray Jr.

Richard Henry Murray Jr. age 65, resident of Dover, Delaware, unexpectedly passed away on Friday, May 29, 2015 in New Castle, Delaware.

Born on December 6, 1949, in Washington, D.C. to parents Claire Friedrich and Richard Murray Sr. He is survived by his spouse, Sherry, three siblings, Kathy, Jimmy and Janice and five children, Sandy, Pam, Wendy, Karen and Ricky IV, eight grandchildren, Shamus, Shannon, Paige, Delaney, Calvin, Kyle, Fallon and Caitlyn and four great grandchildren, Ana, Brody, Kylie and Samuel and three son-in-laws, Sonny, Eric and Scott, and son-in-law to be, Timmy. He was preceded in death by his son, Richard Henry Murray III.

He was raised in Cheverly, Maryland and attended Bladensburg High School. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in August 1969, served tours in Europe and received the rank of Specialist 5 and earned two medals, one for Good Conduct and one for National Defense Service.

He was married on June 8, 1973 and enjoyed over four decades with his loving wife, Sherry.
He worked for Volkswagen of America for over 25 years and most recently for the state of Delaware and in the Archery department of Cabela’s.

He was a member of the National Bow Hunting Association and the Administrator of

Friends and family referred to him as Pop Pop, Ricky, Honey, and Pops and they considered him to be a loyal and devoted family man, a protector, a jokester and was known to be very opinionated and often impatient.

As a son, he was perfect, loving and so thoughtful. As a brother, he was the big brother who was the protector. As a husband, he was a soulmate, a best friend and a confidant.

Some lasting advice he gave was to be strong no matter what, that everything happens for a reason and to never settle for less.

He enjoyed keeping connected with family, friends and co-workers, attending family get-togethers, hunting, watching the Red Skins and NASCAR as well as riding his motorcycle. He also enjoyed visits to Rehoboth Beach and Ocean City, Maryland.

He will be fondly remembered for the positive impact for those he came in contact with, for his strong work ethic and his unwavering devotion and passion for his family and friends.

Great member. One of the all time greats. Him and Dave might be having a cold one together so I'm having one right now in their honor. They would both want everyone to remember that you never know when someone is going to go so always let them know you love them. The words are free..,

I haven't been about in some time, wanted to slip back in and say condolences to Ric's family. He was the epicenter of some of the best forum posting I have ever seen. We had many rockin threads back in the day, the NFL threads, nascar debate thread, Muley, MT thread. I always liked that he was able to say what was on his mind. RIP Rick.
