Do you have to be a Canadian citizen to buy the land? I heard something like that and wasnt sure if an American was allowed to purchase it?

spikeman 12-11-2007 09:17 AM

RE: Land 160 acres

Yes if it is under your name only, What Americans do to buy land here is they form a Alberta company ( which is very easy to do cost about $400) and they put the land in the companies name. An Ltd company has its own indentlty and a Alberta address. Then you claim any expense/income which comes under Farming.... such as contracting a farmer to plant.

sounds like a nice trac of land.....down here around me it runs 1250.00 too 28-2900.00 a acre not unless you buy lowland and thats around a 1000.00 per acre........80 acres can run anywhere from 90 to 220 thousand around me depending on location and how much is high ground....Iam sure it can behad for alittle less..i.e estate sale or something.
