Carlyle on July 31st

Who wants to meet up at Carlyle on Saturday, July 31st?

The Illinois Federation of Outdoor Resources (IFOR) is holding their youth camp on that weekend and they would like us to teach a bowfishing class again on Saturday afternoon. They also think it would be cool if we could shoot some bigheads in the morning so we can cook some up for the kids to try. (if you can shoot bigheads on Friday, we'll put them on ice for Saturday)

So, I need some fish shooters and a couple of folks to help the kids shoot bowfishing bows at the foam fish targets. The bowfishing class is only about an hour or so. It will be up at Coles Creek. It's easy, we just teach basic shooting form and aiming.

Anybody?

Phil,

We are going to try bowfishing before the event and probably afterwards.

I don't know if Kendall will make it down there so I probably won't bring the pontoon boat. So we will have to hit up John or Jeff (the Shot n the Dark boat). Hopefully, we can get another boat or three down there.

Madam President, Not sure what that weekend will bring. My family from California will be here in town, we only get to see them once every two years. Plus I am going to be using up some of my leverage to try and get to Dave's drill and grill next weekend.

Count me in Christine - I'll see if I can maybe talk one or the other of the Rut brothers into coming along - but alas - you know me..the boatless one...IF I can grab some big heads for you on Friday - I'll ice 'em down here ; will that work for you?

HNI_Christine 07-19-2010 01:59 PM

Thanks G!

Our plan is now to head down there on Friday. (K is going to skip work to shoot fish... He's that dedicated. ;) )

If you have some biggies for the cause, icing them down would be great. I'm going to try and get some shot and cut up on Friday.

Phil, thanks to you and your buddy too. Can you bring your bows to the bowfishing class?

I hope the fish cooperate!

i_bowfish93 07-19-2010 07:57 PM

Phil, we're scheduled for 11 am to noon at Coles Creek. After that I'll be frying fish. :)

Then we'll probably go back down to the spillway.

HNI_Christine 07-29-2010 08:11 PM

I'm supposed to clean the fish at 10:30 am... So you're going to need to shoot fast. ;)

Then the bowfishing class is at 11am so I don't think I'll be cleaning a lot of fish in that half hour. I'm hoping to have a bunch done before that 10am. I'll be busy!

Call us when you get there.

Johnny b 07-30-2010 04:42 AM

As many big heads as we have been shooting, I'm thinking you and Kendall will have all you need by the end of today. I'd love to come down today, but my family is not here yet and I do not expect them until this evening. Aim low and shoot straight.

i_bowfish93 07-30-2010 09:17 AM

anybody have room???

Johnny b 08-01-2010 05:53 AM

Below the dam on Carlyle lake. Between two boats, mine and Snuffy. shot 68 fish in total. from big heads, silvers, long and short nose gar, buffalo, common and grass carp. Largest big head was only 18 pounds and change. Most between 10 & the 18 pounds. Not up in heavy numbers but enough to keep interest up..

HNI_Christine 08-03-2010 07:29 PM

I don't have pictures from the Youth Camp. (too busy to take pictures) There were 47 kids there. A few adults shot too.
When I get some pictures from the director, I'll get them posted.

A huge thanks to Phil, John and Kendall for your help!

I cut up 9 bigheads for the lunch. The fried carp wings went pretty fast.
I was happy to see people go up for second and third helpings. :)

Bowfishing pictures from the spillway:

Lunch in the rough!

We always get at least one fish with 'body jewelry'.

On Saturday, Phil went with Kendall. I went with John.

(I have no idea what K is doing!)

Troll faster... I think I hear banjos along with the hum of the fan.

John proves he can hit more than just small fish.

The Danville Crew's haul.

Bowfishing and mechanical troubles.. how they seem to go hand in hand.

At least Snuffy is still smiling.

:)

that sunday we hit hte river again and was with a group from mullberrygrove and was tryn to shoot slivers flyin and that was a challenge

Johnny b 08-05-2010 04:33 AM

Found out that during the course of the day. Snuffys partner had hit the kill switch by the throttle and did not realize it. Snuffy did not check it either until he got home. So glad to hear all was well. and no bucks had to be spent.
