Aerial Bowfishing
Hey guys, just looking to get some info on doing some aerial bowfishing for asian carp. Plan on going out on thursday so seeing if anyone is doing any good and ideas on places to go. This is my first time doing it and was planning on going to the Starved Rock area of IL river. Any input would be appreciated.

Some other people on here should know that area better. Look for low velocity areas that are better than 6 foot deep usually, although sometimes if it is sunny and the water is cold they will be in shallower. Also, if the river is very muddy, look for clear or green water and you will find the silvers.
Protect your throttle mechanism, if it is in an exposed place. If a carp hits the throttle it can throw you out of the boat. Could also break the handle off, if it hits the side, or conceivably cause engine damage although I have not heard of that happening. Anything else that can break when a carp hits it (fishing rods, depth finders, radios, girlfriends) protect them too, or leave them at home. |
Limited experience with that part of the river... But when we were there, where the Vermillion river dumps in was a hot spot.
Good luck! |
