shot in a drainage ditch for flood ground at 18 bottoms south of benton, il. shot in about an hour 1/2 didnt even put a dent in the number of fish. theres about 30 or so more not in the pic got tired of packing them and had to go to work. ive never seen so many bowfins in one spot. and some nice buffs.
if i was to guess on how many bowfins are in that creek right now i would have to put it at 1000.when we first got there (which is about a mile hike threw the muddy bottoms) i shot and broke my arrow off and didnt bring a spare, with no waders i said forget it went in to find it and couldnt feel the bottom on the account of all the fish, i thought they were carp and then they started going crazy seen they were bowfins and ya how i didnt get a nice little bite dont know, but found the arrow and starting shooting

awesome lol...buyin another freezer now? lol
looks like alot of work...like when i take people hog hunting and they wanna kill 5..but at 5 am when they are gettin done guttin and skinnin, they dont wanna shoot but 1 the next day lol

I almost bought one when i was in Tennessee last week, but figured i better find a place to shoot the suker at game before investing. I dont eat carp, and thats probably the only thing around here that would fit the needs of the sport. although i was told to just kill em, by a carp hater lol

What a great first day!

I wonder what caused the concentration of Bowfin.
Hard to imagine they spawn this early? I see them guarding nests in April and May.
